Archos 5 120GB Internet Media Tablet WiFi 5",High Resolution Touch Screen 800x480 pixels, convenient leg stand.

I just picked one up from PCWorld for £89.97, brand new.

SKU: 0000267389.

I know not everyone is a fan of Archos but I can use this to stream music around the house or surf the net when in my local pub so it's suits my needs.

Any photos of the receipt etc?

For that price it is worth it, even though it is not great piece of equipment and a rip-off when it comes to plug-ions etc.!

Nice.

Which store did u get it from? Did they have many ?
#4
yeah which store mate?

Last one from Kingston, Fife road.

At work now but will try to upload receipt when I get home. How else though would I get the SKU?

Can anyone who has got one of these comment on the battery life? I have an Archos 605 (earlier version) and whilst I love the functionality, the battery life is terrible. Would be tempted with this if they had resolved the problems altho agree the plugins are a rip off!
Thx

Like all archos products- broken by design

Fair play. I just thought that, for the money and compared to the price elsewhere, it was good.

Also, who expired. Granted, I can't confirm stock at every store but people get a little too trigger happy on the expire button.

Mine lies under the coffee table, only use it to listen to Flac or watch movies (the only thing it is good for). I have not tested it properly, as I do not travel a lot recently, but the battery seems to be good for almost 2 movies (codec and length dependant), or about 20-30hrs of music, if you do not use screen to much.

If its the version in the photo id remember that its been replaced with the new andriod operating system version hence why its probably this price as its an old version

Defo not the Archos 5 Android internet tablet.

Had a little play with it and so far so good. Great screen and seems very responsive.

probably because no one will find stock anywhere in the country and you had the last one in the store you got it from so will end up being wasted phone calls or journeys trying to locate one which kind of defeats the point of a deal;-)

So you're saying don't post a deal from PCWorld or Currys, even if it's a great price and huge saving as it may be limited stock and not all stores will have them.

Fair do. :)

These where impossible to find last time they were listed at £120 back in Jan, so can’t see there being any chance that you will find one this time certainly not at that price.

He should of checked every store for availability before posting, what a timewaster :whistling:

Really, how much effort is it to make a call?

Any other demands?

1st - check store specific stock

2nd - order for others

3rd - collect and deliver/be at their house to receive delivery

4th - wait for payment (any quidco or cashback must be paid back)

I have the 60GB (slightly slimmer) version of this and I reckon it's a pretty handy piece of kit, and a rather attractive one at that. The screen is really good quality and great for watching videos on my lunch break, and the OS is simple and fun to use. Music playback is good, although may not be loud enough for people who like to have the volume really cranked.

The internet browser is great when you can get it to work - it's very temperamental and prone to crashing, and (as far as I know) doesnt have Flash 10 support so newer youtube videos won't play. I don't use it as a browser often as I have my Blackberry instead.

There are two major downsides - one is having to pay for some codec support, which is a rip as they are already on the device, but locked (Although there is a workaround..) and the second is the charging time (I normally have to leave it overnight).

All in all though, a steal for ninety quid if f you can get it.

Just fed up Archos products Pay extra for plug ins not working as it should.

Not for me even if I could find it.

This or an iPod Touch?

I have a 30gb Archos 5g that can use a SIM card to access the net. I use mine for watching TV shows at lunch time and to listen to music during the day. My daughter has a 32gb Touch and both have their pros and cons. TBH, i you forced me to choose between the two (and I hate to say this), I'd have to pick the Apple.

Archos for me, particularly for watching video.... far bigger and higher resolution screen and bigger capacity . Plus you dont have to **** about with i-tunes to do everything. Just drag and drop. You can overcome some of the codec issues by using free software such as pocketdivxencoder. Mrs kar however prefers her ipod touch.

Archos has a terrible life battery for what it can do, very prone to crashing as well and is only really good for being a portable dvd player. Been staying away from Archos since then. Nevertheless, good price.

Why the need?...it's a clearance deal so perfectly feasible. I got the 250Gb ones for £99.97 before xmas. Call Currys customer services if you need proof. ;-)

Tracking another one down will still be like trying to find rocking horse **** with such an old deal though.

Great post, thanks OP.

Got one today from PCW. The thing is, I got a 605 from one of the deals here before, and the DVR station for it.It is great in combination with Virgin V+ box. This one is not compatible with previous version of the DVR station. Archos is really taking the proverbial with the "add-ons" and the "plugins" at original prices it would cost you several limbs to get a fully functional player. Lucky we didn't pay the full price for this one, then :)

Thanks agin. rep added.

Why? You already have all the information you need, including the SKU.

Or, is it a trust issue?

FWIW, I have confirmed the deal by getting one myself. Whether you're going to find stock is another issue, but a copy of the receipt is not going to help you there either...

Also, I don't think this deal should be expired. Surely there are some somewhere in the country... Any PCW employees reading the topic?
