It isn't a phone it is a media player.

As you might guess....no, last one in Andover.

Also trying to convince myself I need it!!! I already have an iPhone so this is similar. I loves a new gadget though!!
#12
mminghella , I know that... I was looking for an information like: while would I buy this one instead of buying a phone that can play video as well and it has all the features that this one has. Orange San Francisco looks quite good for an alternative....

Yes, the ARCHOS supports the FLV flash container and can play such video files. Although not supported by the Android™ web browser, the ARCHOS 5 Internet Tablets will play Flash™ video (type .flv) from most websites (it will typically do so through the mobile version of the website). The ARCHOS will play .swf (vectorial Flash™) files with its FlashLite™ player. Put your .SWF files in the folder ‘Flash’ and run them via the file browser.

They both had nothing but trouble with the things.

You could get a 1st Gen iPod touch 16GB for a similar price on eBay. So what does this product have over the iPod touch?

Just want to know if it is worth 90 quid.

Would just like to add my experiences.... I bought the 500GB version of this las week (for £199.97 from PCW) and although I'm a huge fan of the Android system.... the Archos 5 IS riddled with bugs. The biggest issue seems to be the resistive touchscreen which just seems to ignore you most of the time. Its also stuck on Android 1.6 and doesn't officially have the 'Marketplace' on it. There are of course workarounds and hacks galore all over the website which I'll be investigating soon but its not a great 'out-of-the-box' experience so to say. I'd send it straight back if there were any other large capacity portable media players like the A5 but there simply aren't any so it stays..... for now..... or at least until the Archos 70 comes out in a fortnight :)

Heat added for a good price for a reasonable product..... be prepared to do some work to it though.

Depends I have the 60GB version but I only use the video feature to watch movies - the screen and playback is amazing - quite portable as well - I am a father and usually have to act as a taxi driver but I take this along and while the way watching a movie, sometimes use it on the train but would advise getting some noise isolation or decent set of headphones but that can be said about most things especially an ipod :-)

Out of curiosity is this (16gb) better then the 60gb version? is the 16gb better for the internet?

The Archos 5 IT came in 2 different models..... the flash units which were 8GB, and 16GB (apparently a 32GB version also existed but I never found one for sale in the UK)...... and the HDD units which were physically thicker at 160GB and 500GB sizes.

Can a PSP do a similar job?

....and 60gb and 120gb :-) Managed to get my 60gb from HMV for £80. The DVR snap on is also £4.97 in Currys/PC World but rare - so if you see one - just buy it - you can ask questions what it is used for later!

Tempted to get this version (if they have on ein stock) just for the bluetooth functionality but then again I do use my 60gb as a storage device in addition to movies and MP3s just irritated that you may have to pay for some of the codecs to watch some types of 'ahem' movies :-). Previous threads show how to side step this though.

It has GPS inside so you could use it as a 5" Screen Sat Nav.
There are some free ones but a good one like Co-Pilot will cost about £27
http://www.alk.eu.com/buynow/copilot/

I cant really say much about the Internet experience on this as I dont have one, have only used a display model,

I'm waiting for the Gen 8 Archos 43 which is the successor to this, it lacks GPS but all the other features look great to me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dba5JJmIono

Although for £90 this is tempting.

You don't need flash to use iplayer.
