Archos are launching their new lines on 14th July, expect some serious reductions on all of these in the coming months.#

Please note Archos are an excellent company in many ways and make some great media players but they abandon firmware for their players when new models come out (usually)

I sold my almost new Archos 604 wifi last week in prepapration for the new Archos 605 wifi, I got what I paid for mine. I doubt I would have go half this time next month.

I have the 504 40GB version. Nowhere near enough storage, but I feel kinda sick that Archos would announce a whole new 'generation' after such a short lifespam of the Gen4 players. Kinda puts doubts in my mind as to how long these Gen5's will last before the 606 WiFi.

Personally though I dont see a reason to upgrade from a Gen4 to Gen5 - I dont see enough new features to justify the move.

There are many reasons to upgrade from a 604 wifi to a 605 wifi

Half the size and weight, 160GB 5G model lighter than 30GB 4G model. 4GB model is nearly half the weight and 30GB is 100 grams lighter.
- Half the price, starting 199$.
- Screen is three times the resolution at 800x480, probably also brighter, better colors and contrast.
- Twice the resolution support, 720p is now maximum supported resolution up from D1.
- Instant on, wakes-up from extended sleep mode in less than a second versus having to wait 13 seconds with 4G.
- Flash videos support as the first product in the world to support that, also it's very smooth in full screen mode.
- Browser probably is faster and smoother with Javascript support
- Progressive downloading of Video on demand content, so you click and watch movies instantly for about 2$ a movie, and legally, with choice among thousands of films from dozens of VOD content partners.
- Access to unlimited music subscription plan directly on the device, pay as little as 5$ per month to access catalogues of millions of songs from all major music studios.
- Opera widgets means you can have hundreds of apps like PDA-style and Office style apps also. Especially widgets for uploading pictures to flickr, videos to youtube/dailymotion/google video, widgets to IM on Meebo and more.
- TV+ with HDMI output let's you record TV and download videos onto a 3.5" HDD in your living room from the Internet when you are out, and synching up automatically over usb2 without using a computer.
- Real Video plugin.
- Automatic firmware upgrade for much more updates to become possible.
