Obviously there is a new Gen model out soon (which looks the biz) but these prices are great. I actually picked up an 80gb instore and was told that the reductions started today.
Check instore for stock or reserve and collect if you're lucky !!

Erm. Do you mean the dock is included or all stores have the dock in stock? :?

Paid not far off £200 for one of these last Christmas.

I heard somewhere that Archosfanforums managed to hack this device so that you could bypass the plug ins and install a bigger hard drive.

I have the 160 gb and it's better than the latest model. Especially battery life.
#13
Would i be correct to assume that you need the DVR station in order to get dvd'd on to the archos player??

Anyone know how easy it is?

DVR to record straight from a video source like sky, freeviw, etc.

There are free programs on the internet like DVD decryptor to decrypt the film and videora to re-encode into a compatble format.

Bot the quickest and a little fiddly but all free. My wiffe got the dvr so I use that but it is a 1:1 recording time.

I bought a 605 when they first came out (20GB), it's an amazing little device and I wouldn't be without it! Perfect for watching divx movies with, get one of the docks (I have both the DVR and battery), and plug it in to a tv for big screen viewing. Always take it on holiday with me, load it up with music and movies and off you go! Note that you may have to purchase the Cinema and Web plug-in's for full use, but at this price it's worth it! HOT HOT HOT!!

its an older gen, non wifi one, and 2gb aint much tbh, the 4gb 605 wifi is £79.97 but still too much comparing to the 40gb model
#18

I'd rather pay £40 more for 40 times more hard disk.

Also, the 405 doesn't have wifi.
#19
Fantastic machine, buy one now!!
#20
I've always been interested in the Archos (wifi) Multimedia Players but never actually got round to buying one. However I've just bought an Acer Aspire One Net Book (512MB/8GB) Apart from the obvious memory increase, would buying the Archos 605, in addition to the AAO be worth while ? TIA
#21
So to get full functionality of these it would be best to get the DVR Station, anything else?
#22
Great little mp4 player, I have the 160gb (selling it currently) and can vouch that they are great but currys doesn't seem to stock the 160gb one for some reason?
#23
Does anybody know about the sound quality of this?
Ive been looking around for a good mp3/mp4 player to buy but one of the only things stopping me from buying the first one i see is the fact that i listen to dubstep - a very bassy genre of music.
If this can carry the bass nicely through my sennheisers, i think this is the one for me..

Anyone?

As is said elsewhere, you have to buy the codecs and some of the programs to get full functionality, you def have to factor that into the price

Looking at this on qvcuk.com and the reviews of it are pretty grim saying its very hard to set up and get everything working......

I was looking at an ipod touch to use to watch films from dvd's, instead of my trusty old travel dvd player , obviously this screen is bigger to watch and a lot cheaper than a touch but reading those review it seems pretty hard to get dvd's on to this archos machine.....

Can anyone comment on the ease of getting dvd's on v an ipod touch??

Ok been looking at these for a while on QVC.

This Currys deal seems a cracker so have taken the plunge and bought the 80GB one and a docking station. Never ordered from Curry's online before. Got free delivery. Oh and I went through ipoints to get points (never used them either!) :-D

That's my Dad's chrimbo pressy sorted.

Can't really compare the 2 as the Acer is a netbook and this is a portable media player.

I've got one and also an eee pc and the Archos is great for recording off the TV (with the docking station), also if you get the cinema plugin you can watch ripped DVDs and if you get the web plugin then you can also browse the internet via the built in wifi.

Bargain at this price, I find it easy to copy/transfer music/films onto and the screen quality is second to none

Cheers.
Its now a possibility

Hmm.. 80gb iPod classic or 40gb Archos 605 :?
#30
This is a really good price, looking around the next cheapest price seems to be around £180 for this player. I have been looking for one of these for a while since my old portable media player died. I have gone for the 80gb model with the dock, will be great for holidays and traveling...
#31
what is the current price of an archos 605 160gb?
#32
Thanks bobdylan
#33
Bah, got one of the 20gb versions from comet for £116 not a few weeks ago. Sometimes it pays to wait. :x
#34
docking kit is out of stock now found out when i processed order if they try and send me 80 gig without it will stamp on it and return it
#35
out of stock at dixons as well

cancelled whole order . probably would not have worked properly anyways well the way I wanted it to, as its not dlna and you have to pay to get internet
#36
Apparently quite a few left in the store near me (everyone ignores mp4 players that aren't made by apple apparently)
#37
I just reserved one... thanks op! Heat added...
And then thought I'd do the research ! :)
I don't seem to find a 40gb model mentioned anywhere. (I can see 4, 30, 80 & 160)Does anyone actually own one? Or is this a typo?

Thanks anyways. Looking forward to my new toy... if it exists :)
#38
Yes there is a 40gb version. it is 40gb of space and is slightly smaller in dimensions than the 160gb and 80gb. However reports on stuttering has been mentioned though not proven in certain hard drive sizes.
I had one of the previous Archos (without wifi) 60GB - think it was 545? Lost the damn thing! So annoyed!

Just done a reservation for 2 of 'em (Kids pressies). Would have preferred to 80GB ones, but hey ho.

How did the poster that mentioned free postage manage to get that?
I managed to order the 80GB & the docking station total came to £174.94 so elegible for free delivery over £150.00. Both say they will be delivered with in 5 working days.

Although I've just been on the site again and it's now showing up as collection only for the docking station?

Cool. Thanks for the info.
Actually, that is even better. Smaller means it may not be as much of a brick as I am imagining it to be now :)
