the description is the 405 and so is the picture. interesting would be ace if this comes off

Looks like a good deal, argos have it listed twice, whats the difference between the two on the link below?

http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001001&langId=-1&searchTerms=ARCHOS+605&x=0&y=0
#4
The actual photo and description on the argos site is for the Archos 405 with only 2GB of memory.
#5
The 160Gb 605 is priced at £299 so this is a misprint (not the posters fault) on the Argos website
#6
ive just reserved one and the receipt says 605 on it so worth trying as obviously a mistake on their site

What all of us can do is reserve one and examine it when we go round to our local Argos shop.

Yep your right, the first person who picks one up could maybe post back and let us know.
#10
be sure to print your confirmation out and pay at a till maybe :)
#11
what a catch that would be.

was hoping you could reserve it for longer.
#12
Im wondering if every store has one as part of the new catalogue launch as ive reserved one in Glasgow and then looked again and out of stock, a couple of my mates have done the same in Ayr and Stockton on Tees branches and been able to reserve one and got the reservation number and when tried again its out of stock.........
#13
If you look at the specs, it say 2gb, also I tried to order home delivery and it is now saying Out of Stock.
#14
Im gonna go and try to collect my glasgow one now and will let you know how i get on

Let us know how you get on?????
#16
I'm going to Hammersmith... will tell you how I get on...

(Knowing me, I will accidently get the cheap one..!)
#17
Not a hope on this one...if you do a search for archos 605 ....you get two hits (both hits have different catolgue numbers)...a true Archos 605 & a 405 (one merely misdescribed in the title).

I'm only 15 mins away from my nearest Argos store where they even have one of the misdescribed i stock, but it's not even worth the bother as I'm convinced becuase of the different catalogue number for the one priced at £99.99, that it'll be the 405 that comes out.
#18
I think there are some serious errors re the description of this item - even at 160gb it says it can only play back 5 hours of video - well that cannot be right surely? You should easily get an hour per Gig on a small screen like that meaning 160 hours. Anyone know different?

It's a mistake, it's not going to happen.

"While we try and ensure that all prices on our website are accurate, errors may occur.
If we discover an error in the price of goods you have ordered we will inform you as
soon as possible and give you the option of reconfirming your order at the correct
price or cancelling it."
#20
How would you stand with home delivery - as these are excluded from the 30 day money back guarantee??
Obviously the 405 would be delivered as that is the description, only the title is wrong !!

Instore - when you pay for a 605 at the till and they give you a 405, where do you stand ???? :?
#21
we need somebody to try and pick one up see what happens

I suspect 5 hrs refers to the battery life when playing video. :)
#26
reserved but waiting to see if this works for anyone else ..

thing is though, if someone does get it, it will probably be on managers' descretion.

still worth a try as theres a massive saving.

good luck all

I found more details - it says that you can store 300hours of video! Cool.
I note that Amazon have it for £173.
I have reserved one at my local argos - going to do some research and pick it up tomorrow if it proves positive i.e. no nasty stories about it on forums etc. Anyone got one of these and would care to share their experience?
#28
its the 30gb one review but other than that, same thing

Have also reserved one at local branch. Expect that not to be honoured either.
#31

#32

#33
did you go with a print out of your reservation saying 99.99 for 605 and your reservation number ?

No; the 30GB one is on Amazon at £173. This one is 160GB, which is on Amazon at £294. As such, you'd be mad to turn this deal down on the basis of a couple of poorish reviews.

But let's face it; none of us is going to get it anyway as it's a clear misprice which will see Argos lose £200 per unit.
#35
I've reserved two, just in case :-D
#36
No, am only 2 min walk from argos wanted to get in there quick gonna take it back now along with printouts of reservation and have a good moan at them
#37
i think ive got one avail for home delivery ;-)
#38
just thought i'd add a quote from argos reservation page. if people still can get it then i am straight up to my local!

This reservation relates to the item(s) only, not the price. The item(s) have not been paid for and the price you pay is the price valid in store when the goods are collected. This may result in the price being different, for example after a promotion that was valid at the time the goods were reserved has ended. Please take your reservation number to the store as you will need it to collect your item(s)
#39
This will never work because the 605 at the correct price has a different catalogue number.

The only way you'll get this to work is by trying this when you get in store:

Exactly. You order by catalogue code, not by the exact item title. They'll give you the item they have relating to their catalogue code, which is the 405 (as has already been shown above). When you try to exchange it for a 605, the manager will laugh you out of the shop. The same is true of home delivery - they'll check the catalogue numbers when picking and packing your order, not the exact item description.

I really don't think anoyone has a chance of getting one of these, unfortunately. Would be a great steal!
