my dd wanted one of these - great price - looks good - am i right in saying they want £17 delivery ??

got 1 from ebay in the end - ok no films on it but only paid 62

would have preferred buying from here but p p too much
#2
do you reckon this comes with the docking station? The other ones listed say optional DVR station - this one doesn't.

Not a chance ,Would be nice if it did though,

£120 delivered with couple of plugins and around 10gb of memory with those films on it, not good
#5
Gotta admit I was tempted ... but I'll stick with my 30gb Av500. OK, it' doesn't have WiFi but the HDD is bigger and I didn't have to pay extra for codecs / docking station / PSU's as I would if I bought the 605.

Not a bad deal though.

Downloaded or streamed? Usually I have to be on a wifi connection to use BBC iPlayer ...

Cool if can be downloaded and taken away.
#12
Just spend an extra £70 and get an Acer netbook, can be used for many more things.

Well, yes. But that's like saying buy an estate car when the buyer is looking at a mini. The point of the PVR's is that they're pocketable (is that a word?) whereas a netbook isn't.

At the moment I can get away with watching 10 mins of South Park in the loo ... but somehow don't want to be seen walking into the lav's with a netbook!

LOL, remind me not to buy your archos if it goes on FS/FT

with the included software your looking at just over 18gb, as a portable media player for video's etc that isnt much at all. add £17 delivery and £20 for the plugins just to watch ripped dvd's or use the web, that is £120 not well spent considering in august it will be 2 generations old as well

Agreed, this is too expensive for 20GB. If it was £50 then it would be hot. If you're going to use it for TV-out functionality you may as well get a WDTV for around £75.

does it play xvid?

does it play xvid?

They do, but they lack the screen resolution of the archos.
#25
my 480 x 640 resolution is just fine and dandy

plus i can make phone calls on mine!
#26
plus a 800 x 480 screen isn't a particularly good aspect ratio for widescreen stuff, so you'd probably find my xda was just as good, albeit a smaller screen.

screen size doesn't bother me though - it's still perfectly watchable.

plus i can do texts
#27
I bought one of these last week, although it said 20gb on the box, it has an 80gb hdd. Apparently this is not unusual ( don't blame me if you order one and it hasn't though )
#28
you cant compare a phone to one of these
#29
i can and i will and i shall and i have

Apples and oranges. You're not convincing anyone of anything with this comparison. I have a 605 and a Touch Diamond and as nice as the resolution is on the diamond you'd have to be crazy to sit and watch an entire movie on that size screen.

And yeah, i suppose you're gonna tell us where we can find a Touch Diamond on the shops for £80 , yes??

Great media player. The docking station is a must though to get the most out of it.
Check out ebay for cheap pluggins,i just found a four pack for £17.44.
Love mine, its great for long work breaks and holidays.
At this price i recon its a bargain.
#33
........just biggin' up my phone guys.

anyway, it's a possible idea if someone needed a new phone but wanted something that had the ability (at a reasonable level at least - screen size permitting) to act as a half-decent media player.

as these things go it's a very decent all-rounder without the bulk or "boring-ness look at me i've got an i-phone too"

sorry for going on it's just i think my phone is oft overlooked and under rated.

i'll keep quiet now
#34
Bargain. just ordered 3 for Xmas pressies
#35
just recieved my 3. Thank you archos. 80gig hard drive fitted in each one
#36
Was it the Harry Potter model? Apparently the 80GB is somewhat bigger and heavier than the 20/30GB - does yours correspond to that?
#37
They are the harry potter models but with an 80gb hard drive. i dont know if bigger or heavier.
#38
Great Media players with superb stunnig screen and picture quality. No arsing about with i-tunes either.. just drag and drop. The web plug- in is worth it as well. (go for the E-bay deal as smentioned above)

This is not the best price ever for a 20gb unit but still excellant if you are lucky enough to get a bigger drive or dont need the space. The best deals were when PCW/Currys sold their stock off last year and I paid £89 for the 40GB and it had an 80GB drive in it as did many others, They were selling the 80GB's for £129 then.

Far better in my opion than the Missus's ipod touch.
