Did you buy one? Is there many left? Might go for a trip tmrw if there is!

No, I am being good today, spotting bargains but not buying. Got iPhone and iPad so not sure there is room in my life for this. No idea of stock levels, just one on shelf.
#7
What plug ins, if any, would be needed to play mkv and avi files? Also, is this a full internet browser straight out the box with no plug ins needed?

If so, yuck.

Cheap price but I would seriously warn against Archos stuff. I used to be a big fan but their technical support and updates are non-existent. For instance, I had the Archos 5 which was marketed as an "Internet Media" tablet, with youtube and whatnot. Then Flash 10 came along, and Archos never released an update for the on-board flash player - resulting in an "Internet Media" player that couldn't play any internet media. Hmm...

£80 and a respectable brand(my opinion, beats some unknown brand). I'm sure this would work well for browsing the web and if you don't have to purchase any plugins it'll be a fine little media viewer.

But to each there own.
On topic, this is hot.

I guess for the money this is fair, at £150 it would be getting long in the tooth, but as an already dated device expect to see this dropping in price (and usability) pretty fast.

A fair price for a dated item 600mhz/Resistive screen, still a better option than a lot of the cheap Chinese Deal Extreme/Alibaba generics though.

With 128MB RAM, not even sure how suitable for browsing it is. Although being android 1.5 the browser is relatively light.

edit:

My assumption is that this tablet is this

rather than the newer capacitive and froyo 7 inch tablet archos released a few months ago.

Shame it doesnt have wireless n, wierd the Archos 5 does!

Still overpriced for what it is, barely more functional than my crappy t mobile pulse, just a bigger screen to get more frustrated at. No better than most of the chinese rubbish out there.

Just shows how much you pay for a brand name
#18
Yeah :/ Rather get a "crappy Chinese import" than this to be fair....

I opted for the 7" capacitive tablet from here posted a couple of days ago. It's got a 1ghz samsung processor and runs 2.2 android. 4gb nand built it and takes upto 32gb micro SD. Its wifi only, but if anyone is considering this it might be a better option, not as well known brand I agree but it's much more of a machine in my opinion.

Where are the brand new ones on eBay @ £99???? Plenty of open box 14 day returns but I bet you'd get more than £109 for new and sealed.

Pointless selling at 109. Knock off postage and eBay fee and u only make a fiver tops

Millions of these archos in hmv oxford street!

I have one of these reserved for pick up today. Can anyone who has already bought one of these give a bit more info on the specs of this model?

There seem to be a variety of different Archos 7 models and specs around (e.g. Internet Tablet; Home Tablet etc.) running different versions of Android. It seems that some can be readily upgraded using custom roms etc, but others less so. Any further info on the model HMV are selling would be appreciated.

Internet Tablet and Hone Tablet are very different animals

Home Tablet is 600mhz cpu and resistive touch screen - Archos 7
Internet Tablet is 1GHz cpu and capacitive touch screen - Archos 70

The HMW one is the Archos 7

Thanks EliTom. I'm aware that the new Archos 70 model is a much higher spec and much more expensive. However it seems that there are several variations on the old Archos 7 with different processor speeds and different versions of Android. Some versions come with Android 1.5, whereas others come with 2.1, which I understand can be upgraded to Froyo using a custom rom.

OK I think there is much confussion but unless someone can show me different I do not think there is such a thing as an Archos 7 INTERNET tablet - even Archos can decribe the Archos 70 as teh Archos 7.0

see here

http://www.archos.com/products/ta/archos_7/index.html?country=gb〈=en click home tablet vs internet tablet link

http://archos.uk.com/

If this is a 1ghz cpu with capacitive screen for £80 in store grab one as they show for 3149 on the HMV website - but I huess these are really Archos 7 HOME tablets - the lower soec machine

Thanks again, elitom. I found that page earlier and the table gives a comparison I think between the older Home Tablet specs and the latest Archos 70 Internet Tablet specs. I suspect the HMV one is indeed the Home Tablet mislabeled as an internet tablet. I still think it would still be worth £80 if its a V2 version of the home tablet as according to the archosfans forum, it seems that they can be customised and upgraded to give good results.
