Yeah, sorry - missed that important bit out. Airside for flying passengers only. I wouldn't make a special trip to get them. Just wanted to make people aware of the deal in the event that they are travelling in the next few weeks as cheapest I could find elsewhere is about £210.

If it's the same as the Staples ones they look very good value but use a very early version of Android (1.?) so I suspect functionality is compromised.

Of course they did!. Right next to the golden egg laying goose and flying pigs that they were selling nearby....

Any more fairy stories to share with us?.

I can confirm that they were there, but see my previous comment.

Yes I have seen your comments and to be frank with you having your confirmation that Staples was selling the brand new Archos 70, with an RRP of around £240, for £129 is still no different to me having another person from this neck of the woods telling you "it wasn't a Chinese lantern I saw over the new year it was a spaceship..."

Oh and that analogy by no means suggests I saw little green men!. I'm confident you saw a cheap tablet for £129 but what you didn't see is an Archos 70 for £129. Not unless Staples are trying their best to go down the pan.

Also for the record. This tablet shipped with 2.1 and is already upgradable to 2.2 via web update. This is not an early version of the O/S considering Google still haven't got their fingers out and launched 2.3 / 3.0.

Hence "see my previous comment". So, you appear to be confirming that they are not the same model, which makes sense. Perhaps if you didn't feel the need to be so arrogant in dismissing other posts we could get a more sensible dialogue going on HUKD sometimes.

Right I've just scrubbed the last comment Besford as I'm probably being overly aggressive and I can also now see what's gone on here.

Both yourself and mightyboosh saw the Archos 7 home tablet in Staples not the 70. This would explain the older o/s (version 1.6) and the cheap price. Amazon and AdvancedMP3Players have both dropped the 7 home tablet down to the £130 mark due to it now being obsolete.

The 70 is a brand new model and I can say pretty confidently that, short of a major mis-price, it's not going to be in a retail outlet for less than £200 any time soon (sadly).

You've also misread me too. It's not arrogance it's humour but alas not everyone perceives humour the same.

One final point though. I doubt very much my contribution to HUKD can be held liable for the conduct of the entire HUKD userbase!. I'm flattered that you think so! :D

Was at T5 again (as you do) and dropped in to buy one of these. Unfortunately none in stock, and price is now £181.81. The very helpful gentleman from Dixons couldn't order me one in, or tell me when they might be getting some more in.

Well you're in luck (and I might be too if I can commit to a decision!) as it's available from Tesco until 8th Feb for reportedly "VAT Free" but it's actually even cheaper than Vat Free at a bargain £183.20 less another 3% Quidco....

Now do I buy it, buy the Advent Vega or just sit here hoping (and dreaming) that the Motorola or Toshiba tablets are mere months away and around maximum budget limits? lol

Can't see it?? Or am I too late and they've sold out? :-(

EDIT: found it, under Archos but not Archos 70!

Glad you found it! After deliberation I have taken the 5% off deal and bought the Advent Vega. Not got it yet. At £183 it's so tempting to buy the Archos 70 too as a large screen media player but I'll stop being greedy (already have 4 Archos devices!).

Cheers fella - mine ordered, for pick up on Friday. Set myself a target price of £190 earlier today, and this is comfortably within budget.

Buy it, buy it!

If in doubt, there's a very helpful chap who's been reviewing on amazon.co.uk.

Well the tesco deal is on until the 8th Feb so I'll get a couple of my old Archos' on ebay and see if i can generate (justify) the funds for an A70!

Currently typing out on the Advent Vega :) nowhere near the horror story some people have reported. It's unfortunately out of juice at present so its also plugged into the mains. Screen is good, viewing angles acceptable and definately swift!.

Two things slightly let it down. It weighs a ton after holding for half an hour and i'm missing the Archos Media Centre which knocks the spots off anything Android I've yet found. Can't yet find a good network capable all formats media player that will play from either windows network shares or from dlna sources. Your A70 will excel in this area!.

Let me know your thoughts on the A70 once you've had chance!.

A70 is good, very good. Once you've switched it on and allowed it to update itself to android 2.2, put android market on there (bit of a faff) plus a few other key apps (sorry, "apks") on there like dolphin browser HD, the google suite of apps (gmail, google maps etc). Angrybirds plays very well indeed. The device doesn't play .vob files out of the box (you'd have to pay archos £12 to download this), but there are some good free video converters to convert to .avi which then plays back very well indeed. The device is sometimes a little unstable, but sorts itself out well by closing and reloading the application. Unfortunately my charger stopped working about 3 days ago (but also found that an old Nokia charger works even better), and then yesterday, for no reason whatsoever, the device turned itself off and would not turn back on. Then it miraculously came back on last night. French flair I guess, but the device and charger will be going back to the retailer to be replaced as soon as they get more stock in.

A decent bit of info that mate. I do like Archos gear overall but it's not without it's quirks. I have the Archos 5 android tablet (amongst other Archos devices) and it's the best I have had thus far but you do have to forgive the odd minor issue with them.

I'm still tempted to get another Archos tablet at some point. Where they are strongest is with media playback and in particular network streamed media playback. The Archos 5 plays 720p MKV files over a network straight out of the box. I've had my Advent Vega for a month or so now and it's still not able to do this local nevermind over a network - and that's with more than twice the processing power!.

Hope your replacement Archos proves more reliable.
