This Tablet incorporates the Google android operating system allowing you to personalize your product with thousands of applications and has a built in webcam.

With its 7" capacitive multi-touch screen, this tablet computer has a host of functions such as internet access, e-mail and chat applications and Wi-Fi.

You can even view all your multimedia on the Archos Tablet in 720p High Definition whether you’re at home or on the go.

cool took the Advent Vega back a while ago as it wasn't ready for release (software wise). Bought this and used my Tesco vouchers that I had in a draw so got it for £165. Heat added.

Ordered one of these last night, hope to pick it up tomorrow from local store.

Was trying to get one of these from Dixons Travel at Terminal 5 for a very similar price, but never any stock. Have just ordered mine from Tesco. This is a great deal bearing in mind that the A70s are low stock elsewhere.

Just ordered mine, hot!

I know the older models had a dock you could buy that you could use to record from sky/vcr etc. I guess this would be the same.

I have the larger 10" model. It's awesome. Yes there will be better android tablets out soon but
a. For this price bracket... prolly not (if so then likely rubbish hardware like a resisting screen)
b. That will play the amount of media as flawlessly as this. Prolly not as archos designed it to do just this and do it well since they are a media device company
C. that has this amount of vendor support. Prolly not (archos have released 3 or 4 updates to it already)

As to 2.3 support... I would gave thought so but nothing confirmed yet. It's not really anything better than 2.2 tbh. 3 is where you should be looking to. But nothing confirmed yet.

Yes there will be better tablets out this year but that's the case with any technology... it all boils down to your wants and needs right now... if you can wait, wait. If not then get one, else be waiting around for the "next generation" etc you will end up never getting one.

As for tv tuner. Not at mo, but there us a guy developing digital usb tuner support within the archos range and archos have expressed an interest in helping so it wouldn't surprise me if they added it to their device (ie plug your own tuner stick into its full size usb port)

Play your own dvds? Yes the media player will play. Vob files I think and also play most formats you chuck at it but if you want to play anything that is mpeg2 video or ac3 audio you need to purchase the cinema add-on pack which is an extra 12quid

No way in hell Archos are going to do that.
No, they will make you by their own proprietary stick which will no doubt be overpriced!.

What would you want one of these for?

That will be the previous gen archos 7. Easy to confuse but a bit of a dog in the hardware and firmware stakes.

Can you download from a sky+ Box anyway? As far as I am aware there isnt a TV dock for this device yet so I would say no

DVD's you can copy, you just need a DVD DRM disabler (like DVD43) and a program to compress and convert the file to a supported format (like Handbrake)

There seems to be a root for this:

Looks like there's some work on custom roms here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=877 but not a great deal.

The tablet ROM scene seems to be more interested in the Galaxy Tab, Viewsonic G and Advent Vega so if you're after quick access to Honeycomb one of those is probably you're best bet.

Tried to persevere with Archos on several products and I have to say they are awful in my experience.

Constantly breaking, terrible customer service and having to purchase access to use certain media files was the final straw.

Still voted hot as its the cheapest for this particular item though.

Anyone know if you can play Flash on these?
#29
Yea can play flash. The official (hardware accelerated) flash player for it is still being "approved " by Adobe but the normal flash player works fine.

So its possible to install the normal Flash player from Adobe? I tried this on the 101 I had for a bit, and it didnt want to install the Adobe Flash update so I returned it to PC World.

The description says
"The Archos, 10", 16GB, Android 2.2, Tablet is an innovative and functional piece of hardware."

:p

Voted Hot, good price for this
I have had a few Archos units over the years, and have always been pleased with them - there is great support out there, in such places as xda-developers and archosfans....generally, Archos units are very adept at multimedia and pretty open to tinkering.....
Finally, for my experiences, I have never had a failure on an Archos device (604 wifi, 605 wifi and A5A IT), all lasting very well with the exception of needing to replace the battery on the 605 once....

Now, I don't need one, but want one.......must....resist.......

I've always been a fan of Archos and it amused me when lots of people wet themselves with excitement when Apple released their ipod video as Archos had beat them to it by 3 years! I guess being a French company and their crappy marketing had a lot to do with their lack of big time success that they could have had.

Still using it daily on my commute, with a 32gig SDHC card in it :) Does me a film on the way in and one on the way back with no problems.
