Just watched that advert too in a programme recorded after 8pm this evening so presumably after all stores closed today as I spent £204 in there today (on a non return item) sigh.

Well if it's an item covered by their 30-day returns policy either (a) take it back for refund and buy it afresh and get the £10 giftcard; or (b) more simply just buy a second one (and get the £10 gift card) and then return the #2 one with your #1 receipt = same effect but no lugging back to store and relugging back home.

Nothing at all unethical about doing that.

Well, £30 in fact.

Say you want to buy a tv for £200. You but £100 in vouchers and get a £10 free. Then do the same again and get a second £10 voucher. Finally buy the tv with the £200 vouchers and get a third £10 free. So now your tv has cost you the same £200, BUT you have £30 in vouchers too!

It does work as I've done this twice when the Beco LCD tv's were £199.

I think they have specifically barred this from happening when they had their last promotion - I think the t&c's say something along the lines that the purchase of gift vouchers are excluded from the promotion, although I do recall some posters saying that they were able to buy vouchers, but it seemed to be store/manager dependent.
#18
That method has been barred for years with these promotions. I am fairly sure that purchases WITH gift vouchers(not buying gift vouchers themselves) are exempt from the promotion. However, it is definitely one or the other to prevent the double bonus. And it is company policy not manager discretion - although you may get the odd customer advisor who doesnt really care and puts it through if questioned!

Well, I for one got away with twice and so did a load of others on here.

EDIT, at two different stores too.....
#20
Not bad going then :) definitely prohibited in the T&Cs though! New starters tend to be best with getting away with that one though, hence the deals near Xmas will probably be easier to succeed with that, due to the influx of staff at that time.

I'm not saying above that it doesnt happen. I'm just saying that company policy states it shouldnt - but we all know that some staff do not follow company policy in any company, so hence you may get lucky.
#21
so what you do is buy 2 x £100 gift vouchers, thats how i got my xbox cheap last year.

What i think some people are talking about is the fact that you can't buy gift vouchers with gift vouchers, this was in the t+c's april last year
#22
No thats not what I mean strato anyway - you cant get a free gift voucher on a purchase when paying with gift vouchers, in order to prevent the double bonus - at least according to the T&Cs and company policy.
#23
i work for argos and can tell you no you dont get the promotional gift card when you are buying gift cards.
Also it is one gift card per transaction meaning you can buy items seperately to get more gift cards.

Any other questions feel free to message me and ask.
#24
When buying my ps3 last year i bought the vouchers separately and got the ps3 60gb and 3 games for £349 with £45 vouchers :-D

What about purchasing products with either giftcards or gift vouchers, are you still eligible for the promotional £5 or £10 Giftcard Offer?

So the fact my partner and I bought a Wii for our daughter using this method when Argos was last running this promotion a few months ago is all a figment of my imagination?

Hmm, would the £200 or so of vouchers I accumulated last Christmas using this technique be a figment of my imagination or yours. I found one store that didn't let me do it, but another where the staff more or less encouraged me to do it!

Exactly.

Sure some stores aren't going to honour that method of accumalating vouchers but the ones that do have the right idea and know they're going to make more profit in sales than they're going to lose but giving out free vouchers when someone buys a gift card.

Gutted spent £220 on a new bed last week!!!

Come on, read before you post. No one said you COULDNT do it. We said that it is against the terms and conditions to do it. I actually explicitly said that some customer advisors WILL do it.

remember, keep your receipts.... its a must have had various battles with argos with faulty goods and if u don't have your receipt its a nightmare.....

who put Easter in March anyway!!! lol!!!!

No one easter sunday is the first sunday after the first full moon after the equinox therefor easter sunday is the earliest it can possibly be this year

thought you might want to know

Voted hot BUT....

Its a pet hate with Argos when you order something for delivery and they say it will be so many days - then send out a letter saying either it will now be X more days, or they will know in X more days how long it will take to deliver, and offer you an 0870 number to cancel your order.

It was a 47 minute call - paying them to at 8p or 10p a minute hanging on hearing how my custom was important to them. Basically paying them for pretending they could sell something that they really had no idea when or if it would supply, and making money from me and wasting my time, for their inability to fulfill my order.
#38
The last time that you were allowed to buy giftcards and still get the free £5 or £10 card was around October last year. But they changed their T&Cs when they ran this promo at Christmas to stop you doing that. I think if you got giftcards on a gift card purchase at Christmas you were just lucky.
#39
When I used to work for Argos back in 2004, this was in their T&Cs back then also....not just last October...

Your probably thinking of the 'doesn't apply to the purchase of giftcards WITH GIFTCARDS' - which they have had for obvious reasons all along lol. Certainly before October that was the only line in their t&cs. Because it was so widespread buying the vouchers first then your item, they changed it in October's deal to remove the 'with giftcards' bit so they can refuse it on any giftcard purchase.....

I can't imagine them being stupid enough to have had that t&c in 2004, then removed it for some bizarre reason for the first 6mths of these offers, then added it back since October? :whistling:
