Hi

This is my first post so be kind.

First saw this in John Lewis 3 weeks ago for £899.99 and have waited patiently for Black Friday.

Have to say on viewing in store the picture was superb and audio outshone the quality of its competitors. No need for the additional cost of a soundbar.

I am still holding off to see what other retailers offer but think this may be the one!

Update! Just checked other retailers and nearest price to date is £799.00.

The big question will Corrie look good on this in normal HD? Really interested in this but only read a few reviews which I have found - most read well though!

This has a MVA panel and not IPS

MVA(multidomain vertical alignment) is pretty much your middle of the road LCDs that give you 5-8ms response times in general and slightly worse color replication

HDR Pro with a 100Hz Panel.

No HDR?

The panel is 8 bit so even if it did state it had it, it would be worthless. You need a 10bit panel and certified HDR to one or both standards > HDR10 and Dolby Vision

8 bit panel, and HDR non standardised which is meaningless on this set.

HDR Pro with a 100Hz Panel.

8 bit panel, and HDR is non standardised, needs to be HDR10 or Dolby Vision standardised or both. It can't be if it's an 8 bit panel so they just say HDR Pro which is marketing talk for b*ll*x.

"HDR Pro is probably LG marketing-speak for supporting HDR content without the full benefit of true HDR (like Dolby Vision). My guess is that it's some sort of proprietary algorithm to enhance pq up to HDR quality without having a 10-bit panel WCG, etc. Similar to what mfrs have done in the past for motion interpolation (LG calls that TruMotion on their tv's). Mfrs are free to use the UHD name however they see fit to sell tv's with just the minimum requirements. Tv's labeled with UHD, HDR-Ready, or anything else even remotely related to UHD will sell."

DON'T BUY THIS TV FOR HDR, it doesn't support HDR.It's impossible for the TV to support HDR as physically it only has an 8 bit panel and therefore impossible to reproduce the colour variations required for HDR.

Confusingly it seems that LG use the moniker HDR Pro on TV's in their range that have 8 bit and 10 bit panels, it's more obfuscation for the consumer.

Can we make it a rule to add 8 or 10 bit panel to the title of the deal?
#24
Can people really see the difference in 8 or 10 bit or is just marketing just trying to get you to pay more for something which is 1% better.

Are office nerd reputable? I've never heard of them and the website looks a bit unprofessional.

Thats well cheap

Do you know if this is HDR because if not it seems a little pricey.
#29
If I'm not mistaken the cheapest range of LG's that are true hdr is the uh770 range. they are 10 bit and have dolby vision. argos and currys both have them. I went into my local currys last weekend and the 55uh770v is £849

This is NOT an MVA panel... it's IPS. The displayspecifications website got this wrong, probably a botched copy and paste job. LG official site states this is IPS which means it will have RGBW panel just like all their other 'fake 4K' TV's. DO NOT BUY!
