Anyone know if these work ok with portable digital indoor aerials as our upstairs tv isnt linked to the main aerial on the roof ???
#10
Shiesh, this is a good enough one & mostly catches reception, might just need a separate Antenna in certain areas. Dont know if Argos do a 30 day return policy on this one.

WORTH EVERY PENNY :whistling:

You all wouldnt believe it, but I have got this one right in front of me as today morning my friend gave this to me for 10£ & is just 3-4 months old. Saved 4.99£ :giggle:

Sorry for being a thickie,
I have sky tv which means all the tvs in the house are tuned to the channel that the main box is tuned to. Having freeview seems a good way of us all watching different things..so..
for the tvs upstairs would these work without an ariel ( i've no ariel on a sky disk) or would i plug in the the sky ariel feed and it be able to pick up other stations that the one that the main box is set with.
or do they not need an ariel?
..

I am fairly certain that this DOES NOT receive DAB.
It does receive radio stations on Freeview but that is entirely different to DAB

ive got the same setup, and the arial from the sky feed goes into the attic and distributes all around the house, and we can all watch freeview through our inbuilt tuners and external tuners.
you might need to boost the signal at the distribution point as the sky signal can be weak when divided through more than 3 sources.
hope that helps.

In theory yes, but you may well need a better aerial, as if you are getting a bad picture from your existing analogue aerial, just adding a Freeview set top box will NOT automatically improve your picture quality.

A good external aerial is virtually essential I reckon... unless you happen to live in a very strong signal area, which I certainly don't!

I paid £99 for my first Digibox from Curry's 4.5yrs ago, still going strong I'll add luckily I didn't buy an extended warranty. What a waste of money that would have been. It's a Grundig if anyone wants to know.

Thanks Montala - for the price I think it's worth the gamble. And if all else fails, I'll get the aerial sorted :)

For Freeview you require an aerial. Sky does not use an aeriel, it uses a dish, that receives transmission for satelites. Freeview requires the aerial to receive transmissions from transmitters spread around the countryside. Freeview can be distributed via your cables though.

If you have no aerial at all connected to the Sky receiver then a freeview box wont work. It's not made to receive any signal from a satellite dish.

You've miss-heared something - yes the picture is a LOT clearer than a normal TV Aerial analogue picture is, BUT you need a good quality reception for Freeview to work. Just ask all the aerial companies who make a ruddy fortune upgrading peoples aerials for these things to work.
It's probably gauranteed that if your normal aerial picture is poor then a freeview box won't pick anything up on it, or at best you'll get just a small selection of the many channels (I don't know how it is that some will work and some don't dependant on aerial quality, that bit's always puzzled me!!)

^I see. What I don't understand is how all the other tvs in the house have a really clear picture without the freeview box and they are connected up to the same aerial, yet the picture quality in my room is hideous. I've tried my tv in other rooms and it is crystal clear. Any ideas?

Digital audio broadcasting (DAB).

That is a mistake, there is no way this will bring in D.A.B. ..it will give digital radio stations, not DAB tho'

Try a new lead from the distribution box to your TV, check that all connections are correctly wired.

bought one today and just set it up. very easy to do so. I had one of the original ITV digital box so this is def an improvement... the old one still works well so it will go upstairs.. thanks for a lot for the tip.

Hi Froggy
Has it got DAB? Or does it just get normal (FM) radio stations through the TV?
Thanks
#38
Probably another silly question but does it have a uhf out socket? I was hoping I could connect it to the tv card in my pc which only has a uhf socket , no scart socket.

Thanks

According to the Argos product detail, it has an RF loop-through socket but that usually means it just passes-through the normal aerial connection so that you can connect a video recorder for example to the same aerial.

If you want to actually broadcast the freeview channel via the RF cables to your PC tv card or other tvs around the house then you need a freeview box that has also has an RF modulator.

I think they would be hard to find these days, the first freeview boxes had them but it adds to the cost of making them, so it is more likely only found in more expensive products?
Perhaps someone who has bought one will be able to say for sure.

Probably easier to replace your old PC analogue TV card with a Freeview card or USB stick instead.
