The wife sent me an email to say these were half price at the moment at Argos. Was £59.99 and down to £29.29 on the website. I reserved one and picked it up and went for the extra warranty at £5 and the guy at the till asked me for £19.68.

I kept my poker face on thinking it may be the wrong toaster but I got exactly as ordered. Got home and checked my receipt and the toaster came to £14.69

It may have been a one store mess-up but I'm happy :-) Argos number is 423/0405

4 slices.

Polished stainless steel.

Independent 2 slice operation.

Variable width.

Self centring.

Variable browning control.

Hi lift.

Cancel/frozen/reheat facility.

Mid cycle cancel.

3 removable crumb tray.

Non slip feet.

Sounds like a good deal. I've been looking for one of these, Tesco and Asda have 4-slice stainless steele toasters for this price but Russell Hobbs are a good make so might see if there's one local to me for that price. Thanks for tip-heat added!

Looks like it was the guy on the til. If you reserve this one (with or without the cover), it's £30

Probably apply the reduced VAT rate at the till/kiosk

Did any of the above bother to read and understand the OP's post?

I think not.

You need to go in store to find out the right price. It has happened before, I can remember something similar quite a while ago (a philips dab/mp3). So you are better off in store, you might get a nice surprise! Shame none left around where I live....
#7
Like I said - might have been a local store mess up only but worth a go.

Here's the proof for the non-believers ;) Yes it comes up on the reservation at the full price but instore was half the web price.

And you might notice, the toaster is £14.69 but the extended warranty is for the £15-£29,99 range rather than the £2.99 that should have been charged for the <£14.99 product.

I'm not complaining about the £3 difference though :)

Lol @ extended warranty, its a toaster :\
#10
My last toaster was purchased in Feb 2008.

It was a 4 slice Breville and was pretty useless. A couple of weeks ago, the wife was using it (for the first time in months) and it blew the house electrics. She managed to do this twice more before it clicked what was killing the RCD. I managed to find the receipt and got a refund.

£20 for 3 years worth of toasting it worth it in my book - £5 for an extra couple of years worth of abusing the toaster isn't a killer really lmao.
#11
Confirmed this is not just OP's store or till operator error.

Reserved last one locally - email confirms £29.29. Went to collect and charged £14.69 at till.

Thanks OP - didnt go for the extended warranty though:roll:

I like some of the reviews. Especially these:

"The four slice toaster is very handy as you can do two or four slices, depending how many are eating."

Well fancy that.....

"Bought it a week ago, not had a chance to try out all the functions but so far so good. Looks nice too!!!"

All the functions? It's a toaster for god's sake!! :whistling:

I'm just back from argos Livingston and I noticed these all stacked up. Silver 4 slice toasters at under £15. I didn't take a close look though but was impressed at the price. I just assumed they were 'amstrad' or 'argos own' or some other, but if these are branded - that's mighty fine.

" I seen these wid me own eyes, MAN ! " " it's true, TRUE I tells ya ! "

£5 for a £15 item not really worth it, just buy another!

But great deal anyway!

This one has 'disco mode' too.

You simply select the highest heat setting, place under smoke detector, load it with extra thick bread, then rave till your hearts content. :w00t:

Plus you can use it too help you shave - not as a blade, more of a mirror.

Any finally, although not recommended - you can heat up the kids mittens before that school journey through the snow, although I'd suggest heat setting #01 for that.
#17
Expired already ? Any reasons ?

This toasted has previously been on sale for £23.47 (much less than the£29.29 half price offer). Sooooo - maybe they are (knowingly) selling these off at £14.69.

weird - says they're not in stock in Livingston on the on-line stock check. :|
#20
Argos actually do sell a few "noname" 4 slice toasters at around the £15 mark - I was going to buy one but knew the wife would moan so went for the more expensive (or not) Russell Hobbs

Maybe the stuff thats stacked up on the shop floor isnt included cos surely you wouldnt be able to reserve these (if you did then by the time you got there they may have all been picked up and bought).
#22
The Argos till system must be set to discount the PRODUCT 50%, and is not checking the PRICE if its already 50% less than RRP. 50% of £29.29 is £14.65.

Would be interesting to see if you took the number to the till rather than a reservation number if it would come up £29.29 or £14.65. I bet it would be £29.29

Good find! Why has it been expired??
#23
Maybe the guy on the till gave you a decent deal because you were one of the one's silly enough to take out insurance at 33% of the unit price for a toaster !!

You have a year's guarantee anyway as standard, and if your toaster should break down over the next 3 then just buy another. Its hardly a 50" plasma is it?

Well I originally thought I was purchasing a toaster for £30 so the £5 insurance cover for an extra 2 years was only 16% of the purchase price and considering the lifespan of my last toaster didn't seem too bad a price (we use the toaster a lot !).

When it came through the till at £19.68 for the toaster and the insurance (nearly half the price I was expecting to pay) I didn't stand there and argue with the guy at the till :-D

Did you read the post

"£29.29 on the website. I reserved one and picked it up and went for the extra warranty at £5 and the guy at the till asked me for £19.68."

I can confirm it is the 14049 model (currently around £30 off Amazon)
#28
good find. have reserved mine lets see what happens!

This is incredible. People pour scorn on the poster, demand proof for a £15 item, get proof so then attack the poster for taking out £5 for insurance that would guarantee a direct replacement of the product which may be a £30 product on return....nice find and thanks for letting us know.

Hey - I'm thick skinned :p

As long as the people who are genuinely interested get their £15 toaster I'm happy

Just to let you know....you were charged the wrong price for insurance...see here I would take your receipt and let them know as its a mistake at the tills. Should have been chargered £2.99
#32
I'm not worried about the £2, it would cost me more in time and fuel to get back over there and argue it.

I rarely go into town - I just fancied a Subway an a new toaster today so made the effort (and the Subway was lovely :p )

Not in stock anywhere near me :(

none in the north west at all. usuall argos ****.

Also I've had both their kettles and toasters (R.H) and they never last...better off getting a cheap one to throw in the bin (after a year) for £3 @ asda or tesco......:p

Reserved last one at my local store, will pick up tomorrow. Thanks!

Heat & rep added :)

Just did the same process as in reserve and collect and it scanned in at 15 quid, no questions asked. Voting HOT. Only had one in Uxbridge though.
#39
Glad other people are getting the deal :) (Phew)

I did a search on a NW7 postcode and it said there were more than 5 in stock at the Finchley store (I think).

So they are about but it sounds like its an end of line deal.

Already mentioned but says this on the description page:

Additional Information

* Please note item 4230405 has previously been on sale at £23.47.
Current selling price valid until 17/02/2009

The best advice I can give is buy a Morphy Richards toaster. Mine cost £35 and it's superb. Every other toaster I've ever bought has packed up after a year.

Otherwise you could be looking for another toaster in a years time.
