a word of caution about this:

# Shreds into 4 x 36mm pieces.

That means you may as well save yourself £8.99 and rip it in to 4 bits yourself. It may be better then throwing it in the bin unshredded, but not by much. A 4 year old could piece 4 bits of paper back together no problem.

Think it means that each shred is 4mm x 36mm. And there will be lots of them! :whistling:

Yet all the other shredders advertise their cross cut, yet this one doesn't.

So therefore it must only cut it into strips.

"I WAS SURPRISED WHEN IT ARRIVED AS I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE MUCH BIGGER.
THEN I THOUGHT WHY NOT TRY IT FIRST, I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE WAY IT SHREDS INTO SMALL PIECES UNLIKE SOME SHREDDERS AND IT EVEN SITS ON TOP OF THE PRINTER INSTEAD OF THE FLOOR.
WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE FOR HOME USE."

"A very good and efficient shredder. Particularly liked the cross cutting action which helps keep the shredded paper more compact and easy to dispose of."

Umm Simba, you need a bit of elementary geometry my friend. How would 4mm x 36mm be akin to ripping up the sheets yourself? The only way this is not cross cut, is if you are shredding paper half the size of the smallest Post it Notes - if you know what I mean!!

By my calculations, a standard folded sheet (210mm x 297mm) is shredded into 333 pieces - or 108 pieces for each of the 4 'ripped' sheets.

Level 3/4 DIN security - not bad. Unless its the Iranians!!

'Shredded documents can be reassembled manually. After the Iranian Revolution and the takeover of the U.S. embassy in Tehran in 1979, Iranians enlisted local carpet weavers who reconstructed the pieces by hand. The recovered documents would be later released by the Iranian regime in a series of books called "Documents from the US espionage Den". The US government subsequently improved its shredding techniques by adding pulverizing, pulping, and chemical decomposition protocols.'
