OH - didn't realise that this doesn't have Freeview !
Like me, perhaps others will make the wrong assumption and be dissappointed.

Can someone explain something to me - If I have a freeview tv and plug this recorder in will it pick up the EPG from the TV or is that asking a bit much!

Think thats asking too much.
I would assume that you would have to record manually
ie. press record when you want it to, or set the timer as you used to with VCR's.

I will ask the usual divx question, anyone know if its supported?

Voted hot:thumbsup:

Just a thought but wouldn't one of the SKYPLUS deals have been cheaper? (£59.00)ish

if you on the xl tv package you can get a v+ box for this price, that would mean you could record two channels and watch another at the same time, you'd also have the benefit of using only one interface, could be a better deal but obviously its your preference

Can you play MP3's as it does not say in the first post?

Thanks

Hack,
It could be the old classic on this model:

open tray place region 1 dvd in it but dont close the tray!
on remote press 0 1 2 3 then play .
#22
What are the different recording speeds (quality) of the dvd recorder ?
#23
4th time lucky.

Hack could be:

open tray place region 1 dvd in it but dont close the tray!
on remote press 0 1 2 3 then play .

This is a old Wharfdale class region hack.

whats the difference between this one and the acoustic solutions one for £5 less? Is it just the fact the £75 one will record on -R disks?

Why is that? I don't use freeview at all so why would it be a doorstop?

Yeah - I'll rush out and get one that does freeview ready for when it comes to this area in 2011

No Freeview here until 2010 so perhaps then I'll give it a lick of paint and park it by the back door :whistling:

Nothing like a sweeping statement to get one's hackles up is there ? :x

mmm good deal, wow, my hot vote gone up, i can give 18c ?

Got this Today :)
Is there a way to connect my Freeview TV to this HDD/DVD Recorder and record freeview. As I can't get it to work with this setup. It only scans the 5 terestrial channels. Do I need to purchase an external freeview box to record freeview on the HDD? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx
#33
I bought one today and its going back tomorrow, there is lots of vertical lines on the screen when looking at my sky box through it, tried two different tv's, two sky box's, and 2 scart cables (also cut the loopthough pins in scart) and no luck, must be a fault. I had the recorder connected via HDMI to the tv also.

I got one today and am impressed with it (but bear in mind its my first one!)

Certainly no vertical lines using virgin or my cctv as inputs, nor using the tuner, so think the one above must be faulty :(

I can confirm it doesn't play DIVX though :(

Not had much time to play with it, and being honest bought it for when my new TV arrives next week, so won't be spending too much time on it until then
#35
Anyone know if this has >> RGB IN <<.

This is *very* important for recording high quality from sky+ or similar, and frankly rather too few dvd recorders have it.
I had a technika a few years back which worked great, and had rgb in until it packed in 9 months later... full refund, but not found a viable cheap replacement.

Also anyone know if it writes dual layer?
banned#36
yes the scart input has rgb, i know as i had to change it as wasn't getting a picture through virgin to start with and teh scart lead i'm using must have it
#37
i cant believe how good this deal is?

i spent 2 weeks around 4 months ago searching for one and was over the moon with a 100 pound one.

this is just amazing.
#38
after reading many a many of reviews, the poor dvd recorders big big flaws is when the entire HDD is erased, just one day you turn it on and voila, you got a fresh empty HDD. I am not saying this does this, but that was a hell of a flaw ppl need to stay away from.
#39
I'd jump on this only for the lack of DivX...
Still worth a hot vote though!

For some he has a point, analogue goes down next year for us so this is a door stop tbh.

A pvr is the best option and there are loads around for this money and are easier to use than this sort of kit.
