Frankly, you can get ARMAII: Free Edition and get all this game series is worth. The multiplayer. In fact, you can buy OA and use the free edition as a substitute for ARMAII. It'd be advisable, so you don't waste more money than necessary trying out Day Z.
You must have an appointment due at Specsavers if you think ARMA2 doesn't look amazing on maximum details...Sure the game is buggy but name one that isn't these days? Especially ones that are heavily moddable sandbox games.... As far as I'm concerned this is a fantastic game even without mods, my only gripe is the terrible inventory system and some flakey animation in places.
The SP/Co-Op campaigns in the main game are all examples of the built in EDITOR tool, so if you ain't happy make your own custom ones or download one of the tens of thousands available for FREE. Oh and Dayz is in ALPHA... not even a Beta yet, that means it's 6-12 months from a finished product and indeed new features and fixes are landing almost daily now that the lead developer is backing it, and it's totally free so stop with the whining.
At the end of the day if the game is too hard for you or your rig just sucks balls, just stick to simple COD shooting gallery clones that stiff you £15 everytime they turd out a new map, I sure the multitudes of real world armies that use ARMA2 and it's bigger daddy for real training simulations will carry on without you.

And this is an example of the type of folk that are inept or too lazy to learn any game that requires real life team tactics and methods.... you know the type, if it doesnt have auto-aim they suck at it.

The entire ARMA series comprise some of the worst made games I've ever seen. They rope you in with the visuals which look alright in screenshots, but really it looks like ass for the most part. Expect bugs. Constant bugs. Don't think 'oh well I'll play the co-op or something if Day Z is ****' -- that's like pulling teeth. Just avoid this game -- that's the best advice I can give you. I like military sims, but they were clearly aspiring far above their actual capabilities as game developers.
Buy yourself a nice dinner and watch one of the original Romero trilogy and you'll be far more satisfied. Just don't be surprised if I'm telling the truth and you choose to ignore me until after you purchase it and spend 2 hours running around a field before being shot by someone who never bothered to ask if you were friendly or not.
EDIT: I'm not voting though, as this is only my opinion. Maybe some people like horrible, buggy, broken games and if so, this is the cheapest price for a horribly broken bugfest of a game.

I both agree and disagree. With a good PC the game actually manages to look rather nice. And in playing DayZ, bugs are something you should expect, it IS in alpha (something people seem to forget). Seeing as I probably have over 100h on DayZ, I think it's pretty good value for money. You just have to accept that you will die randomly at times, potentially losing days of play. Happened to me about 3-4 times.

You clearly havnt experienced the game as it is mean't to be played.
Maybe you hopped in expecting A Battlefield style game?
The majority of bugs are from custom mods and game types. AKA DayZ (Which is one of the most revolutionary mods).
Arma is great if you find a community to play it with. One of the most rewarding yet challenging games i have ever played.
Also you failed to spot that the graphics can be spectacular. Maybe your PC can't handle it?
Overall don't buy this game for DayZ. Buy it for the Teamwork. The challenge. The community

Thanks. Can i just get that one to play dayz?
Not really sure what i need to get as im buying it for my borther. He just wants to pay the dayz mod.
Arma 2 free is only the MP and at a lower res, so if you are planning on only playing DayZ, and have a decent PC, the extra £5 is worth it as a HD upgrade almost. As well as the campaign and mods. Check ACE and Invasion 44 for some of the ones I like. It's also not supported by the devs if you use arma 2 free.
GOOD OLD FASHIONED LOGIC IN ACTION THERE. Suck it up and keep on enjoying the Operation Flashpoint rehash-done-worse **** they keep shovelling you.
