Link goes to pdf, just print off, fill it in and post with a cheque for £5, a copy of proof of age, usually a birth certificate, and two passport size photos. Save a fortune, can be used after 9am any day during school holidays! A return ticket for over 13's can usually cost over £5 at full price. Arriva aren't advertising this widely but it's been available for over a year at least.
The card doesn't have to be renewed, the £5 is a one-off payment and the card is valid until the end of January after the child's 18th birthday.

The Teen Card
The Arriva Teen Card is a must for all young people
living in County Durham, Darlington or the Richmond
area. It allows reduced travel on most of our services
in these areas at off-peak times and during most non
schooldays. Any young person up to the age of 18
can get a Teen Card and you dont have to live in
these areas to get one. You can use your Teen Card
up to the 31st January after your 18th Birthday.

But where can I go?
You can travel on all Arriva services starting and/or
finishing in County Durham, Darlington or the Richmond
area (inc. services X26 & X27) except for special summer
services X60 and X61, contract services 737 and Moorsbus
and routes X24/X27 to the MetroCentre, Gateshead.

And when can I use it?
You can use your Teen Card after 6pm on Monday to
Friday, at any time on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank
Holidays. You will also be able to use your card after
9am during most school holidays.

How much will I have to pay?
The great news is that Teen Card holders are only
charged at half the adult fare up to a maximum of
50p. So, no matter where youre going or how far it
will only be a maximum of 50p! There are no return
tickets available with your Teen Card.

How can I get one?
Please complete the Application Form in this leaflet,
enclose two up to date identical passport size (approx
40mm x 30mm) photographs of yourself and proof of
your date of birth. This will normally be a photocopy
of your birth certificate.
Send these together with a £5 cheque or postal order
payable to Arriva North East to:
Teen Card Section, Arriva North East,
33 Portland Terrace, Jesmond
Newcastle upon Tyne NE2 1QS
Your Arriva Teen Card will then be posted to you and
should land on your doorstep within a few days.

What happens if I lose my card?
Unfortunately, you will have to pay a further £5 if you
lose your card and need a replacement. Just pick up a
new Teen Card leaflet, fill in the application form and
include some new photos. If possible, please quote
the reference number on your original card.

My card gets damaged ...what now?
If you need a replacement, please return the card with
a letter and a new photograph and we will be happy
to send you a new card free of charge.

arriva in the north east are a joke!

http://forums.gazettelive.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=28

i only take 10x20min bus journeys a weak but in the last week have had 2 buses not turn up, 3 buses break down (1 of which was a replacement for 1 that didnt turn up, which had broke down also!) 4 buses that were late & 3 that went early! (this is early morning buses which constantly go atleast 5mins early!)

if you complain you get replies from arriva from all over the country! EXCEPT arriva north east! aparently they are a bit inundated with complaints! LOL just got a letter this morning from arriva liverpool saying that they are sorry and that my complaint has been passed to the concerning manager who will reply within about 10 days........ which then means the end of it as you get NO reply from arriva north east! :(

Agreed, but in my area Arriva are the only bus service we have, we are six miles from "civilisation". The fares are extortionate, without a Teen card my kids wouldn't be able to get out and about anywhere.

its the same here. arriva are the only ones in redcar so you just have to lump it. prices to up to cover wage increases (drivers have gone on strike several times & think they are on £8/hr now!) & fuel increases but wont drop prices when the fuel went down  plus all the buses are knackered and are cast offs from northumberia/newcastle.

well i'm gonna be trying a far more reliable & cheaper service on friday....... bicycle! a straight 5 mile path all the way to work and will save atleast £700 a year while gtting fit! :whistling:
