the 500g has never been a pound, only the cheaper stuff

It was £1.50 a few weeks ago so £1 is a good price.

It has.The do this now and again dropping this size pack mince down to £1 as i've bought it before. This current offer is part of the rollback offers.

I find Asda mince shrinks right down to nothing when cooked and is gristley. So does Tescos.

But I'll vote hot at this price, great for dog food.
#19
Good deal, heat added !!

Sainsbugs had it today for £2.20 a pack or special of buy 2 for £4

cheap mince made from lean cuts of beef will be quite tough. If you want lean mince then you need to make it from steak and you won't see that at £1 for 500g, obviously.

For cheap mince it's better to look for ones with 15-20% fat content. It will be more tender when you eat it. The fat can be easily skimmed or drained off if the calories or cholesterol worry you. Mix the fat with some oats and put it out on a bird table. Blackbirds love it.

Had Lean Asda Mince over XMas - was like rubber, they even had a picture of the farmer on the packet so you new who to blame.

That's not ignorant is it?

no blame asda for forcing the farmer to sell their meat for pennies, having said that a deal is a deal and you could get ethical about everything any supermarket and in fact every shop does things like this or ignores sustainability, its all about the £, increasingly so

Good deal, thanks for posting...voted hot

Aweome deal. Just went to Asda today and bought a couple of packs to stick in the freezer. Make for some great cheap student meals :)

I feel a bolognese coming on! Now do I have garlic, onions, tomato puree, tinned tomatoes, red wine aah yes and tabasco sauce for that "kick"! I'm set.

Very low quality meat, like all supermarket mince it's got bits of bone and arteries in it, not nice. Get it from your local butcher instead.
#31
The Asda normal mince is quite tough and full of fat... best off spending a little bit more and getting the minced steak imo ;) Not a bad price if you don't mind chewy bits in your spag bol!

Good for making burgers.

I don't know why people are complaining so much about the quality of this mince. Especially people saying 'spend a bit more and get lean mince'. The lean mince is almost 3 times as much as this for the same amount (£2.89) and whether or not it comes from steak it's clearly not the best quality or it wouldn't have been minced in the first place but that doesn't stop it from being really tasty.

An alternative that I really enjoy is to make a sort of Hot Pot with mince. Simply brown your mince with onions, garlic, and plenty of black pepper. Throw in any herbs and spices you want, I find cayenne is brilliant, gives it a nice little kick. Then add a couple of stock cubes and some boiling water and simmer for at least half an hour. Chop some potatoes into thin rounds and layer them over the mince in an oveproof dish and voila.

Give it a go. I love it.
