Also if you are an Asda employee this begins today for you and you are able to trade for friends and family.

More competition for game shops... what I like to see, GAME are a complete rip-off.
#3
My kid works in Asda and they have been doing it for staff for weeks in her store, shes got a lot of decent bargains
#4
I was in ASda Swanley last week and they already had pre-owned games on the shelf so it must have started already?
#5
Maybe it's store specific as to when it starts?
#6
I've seen them on shelves in asda for weeks too. prices are stupidly high, so maybe their giving you a decent amount to trade in
#7
My asda in derby been doing this for about 4 months now and there better than game in general on trade s but pre owned games are slightly higher priced
#8
They've been selling pre-owned games in my local Asda for some time now.

i would say more than slightly higher priced. They are a complete rip off. Yet another example of the pure greed of supermarkets putting everyelse out of business. In a few years time we will only have supermarkets then you will all find that they will hike their prices up on everything on you will have no choice of where to buy anything.
The whole pre-owned market is wrong for the developer as these stores make more money than they do.
freezing cold deal.

if we only have supermarkets (plural like you said) there will be lots of competition. they're already cheaper than corner shops or local games stores.

hot from me

thats where you are wrong, they will work together to fix higher prices for everyday goods.

If your conspiracy becomes real, then perhaps some of the closed Indies and Specialists will simply rise from the ashes once again... There will still be products to sell.
#14
is there an online price to show what they would offer for games? or do you just go instore with a bag full and see what cex are offering first?
#15
Leeds Crown Point was probably the first store in the country to do it. It seemed at first they were selling brand new games as "used" just to fill the used shelf.

Been doing this in my local ASDA for about a month now. The prices of used games are expensive e.g. Assassins Creed 2 is going for £14 but you can get it New online for £12. Im not suprised at that though my ASDA is still charging £40 for Fifa 10.

Not even going to bother taking a game in to see how much they offer for it.

At least someone else shares my view.
Killzone 2 is £15, Fifa 10 £30, U:ncharted 2 £20 they are having a laugh.
Anyone who buys a pre owned game from them must be deluded.

Collusions and cartels are illegal - it won't happen, especially in such an economic climate we are in as of late.

What Retro89 is saying nothing to do with your opinion. The only way firms can eliminate competition is if they charge lower prices than the others - based on your prices, they're pricing themselves out of the market, so therefore they're hardly likely to oust various gaming chains.
What I think you meant to say is that they're going to offer higher or very very similar trade-in prices than the other stores - as others have said, GAME for example offer very low prices - this will either force others' hands and cough up more or risk losing the pre-owned division of the company.
Although to be fair, even if ASDA eliminated gaming stores, this won't be enough to make them go under. I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that the pre-owned sector, whilst rather profitable, isn't necessary to remain afloat.
