Great game, highly recommend!!
#2
Ditto that, absolutely excellent. Funny, it may have an older engine than crysis, but the gameplay was just superb.
#3
Phenomenal price, voted hot. Worth it for any one of these games individually in my opinion - certainly for TF2, HL2 or Portal. To get these games all together at this price, and Episode 1 as well, is a steal.
#4
can anyone confirm that its instore as well? HOT

It saddens me to see you say "For us people without XBOX360's and PS3's"

Whilst the Xbox 360 port of this PC game is fairly robust, the PC version is the superior version. The PS3 port was farmed out to an EA team, who didn't do a particularly good job, and it suffers terrible framerate problems, particularly at the most graphically intense moments of Episode 2.

This version has the best controls, the best graphics, the best online infrastructure and community, but most importantly, it also gives you access to literally hundreds of mods. Improved graphics packs, stand alone games, multiplayer mods, total conversions. None of these are available on the console versions.

Apart from anything else, you can't play Half-life 1 on the consoles, missing out on that is missing out on a huge part of the overall story arc to the Half-life series.

Obviously there are good reasons to get the console version. If you don't have a gaming PC, or have a much worse set up on your PC (like screen and audio set up) and for some people the console version might be preferred, but in most cases the PC version is the best version.

This is the definitive version, and this is a fantastic price for it. Voted hot.

Edit: It can be had for £16.14 here

I had a promotion on this when it came out, eventually put them on a mid spec Sony PC, PS3 & Xbox360 and the PC ripped them both apart, 360 version is very good though and ive sold more on that then the others, the PS3 version isnt polished at all takes ages to load as well ?? and does suffer slow down a lot. One of the guys in the one of the shops was saying the PS3 version will rip them all and when he seen it they handed him his coat LOL, I got the promotional copies which have all the language taken out.

Man, anyone who hasn't played the game yet should definitely wait til they have played it to see that, it doesn't make any sense without the context of the rest of the games narrative, and it's kind of a spoiler...

I'd love to finish the game but Portal makes me nauseous for some reason. I can play TF2 for hours on end with no ill effects. But put me in front of the PC to play Portal for 5 minutes and I feel ready to hurl. Weird......

Lewiep, you CAN play half life 1 on the consoles. It came out on the PS2, and so could be played on the PS3?

It may have come out on the original Xbox aswell, but I wasn't into the 'Microsoft' scene at that time (I was a devout Sony-ite until the PS3 came out). I do know that Half life 2 did get done on the Xbox, and seems to be quite a respectable version.

But I would say that the PC version is definitely the one to get if you can. As for the deal, I picked mine up for £17-ish, and I had a choice of places to get it from. Its definitely the best £17 I've spent, and I've not yet finished the first Half Life 2, let alone done the Episodes!!

Still £39.97 Xbox360 & £24.97 PC, Instore Hamilton.

Im a massive counterstrike fan, can anyone tell me will I be able to play counter strike source for free with this? Thanks, Richard.

Also does this have episode 1 ect as there seem to be lots of difeerent titles available ansd im not fully up to date on half life 2 and all the extras.
#14
I'm also interested in Counter Strike Source. Am I correct in assuming if you buy this game via Steam, you will get this also. I don't peticularly like Steam, but only really want Counter Strike.

No the PC version doesn't have CS:S.

It has EP1, EP2, HL2, Portal and Team Fortress 2 (worth the whole amount IMHO)

Oh yeah, you're right. Halflife 1 came out on PS2. It was a really bad port though, and not sure how it would play on 60GB PS3s, and it wouldn't play at all on 40GB ones. No excuse to play it today considering literally any PC will run it far better, especially with various texture upgrade enhancements.

Halflife 2 came out on Xbox 1, but Halflife 1 didn't.

It was a pretty impressive port considering the hardware, but they really had to cut the game down. Long load times, low quality graphics, lots of texture popup, reduced AI. Again, playable, but a significantly inferior version.

Just came back from Asda Portsmouth, has it for £27, I spoke to the media counter person and they said it's probably just an online thing. Strange.

Cheers - great games, great price!

It *does* install using Steam though, so you can just pay $10 or whatever it is and download it.

Strange coz i got the same feeling of nausea playing halflife 2 but not with portal, its the only fps that gets me that way, wonder why?

Voted hot. Damn i forked out £34 quid at HMV for this as it was an impulse buy. Must say TF2 is excellent..
#22
I was a huge fan of the original HL game but the HL2 variants to me are more geared towards kids it seems? (Maybe I'm just an old fart now :whistling:)

I've just finished HL2 EP2 last week and to be honest it only took me a couple of evenings - I was astonished to find I had completed the game

When playing EP2 it really didn't offer anything new (for me) and I pretty much went through the motions of playing it and didn't really find any aspect of the game enthralling.

On Sunday I completed COD4 which was also amazingly short...but really enjoyed that

Stalker is high on my list of recent recommendations.

I'm looking for the cheapest place to "source" CS Source - any ideas?

It'll be the field of view.

Go into the console and type sv_cheats 1 then enter
Then type fov 90

I changed it today and just finished Portal :) Still feel a little sick but not as bad as before.

As for CS:S I'd say just buy it off Steam.
