AVForums thread on these players.

seen many times before, usually with great heat:
Nov 2008 @ £16.40
May 2009 @ £20

would suspect this latest find is store-specific final clearance stock as I haven't seen this model in my local ASDA since last year!

I drove to four different ASDAs when this was publicised last month, including a Wal*Mart megastore, but couldn't track this down. Megadeal if you're lucky enough to find it. I settled for the Lidl £20 version instead.
#5
Great price, I hope they have some at my local!
#6
Ooo, seems a little better than the Tesco player. May have to go for this one instead. If the local has stock that is.
#7
Can you fast forward divx files, unlike the Tesco one which only skips movie to movie.
#8
Phoned every Asda that I could get to in Glasgow including the 2 in Dundee as my Mum would be able to get it, none of them had one. :-(
#9
I think these are made by Grundig

Yes indeed. They also have a "seek" option - tell it you want to be 1hr 27m and 10s into a film and it'll go straight there. (Wish the Philips one I have in the front room did that - it sometimes takes over half an hour at 32x to get an hour into a film!)

Voted hot, despite it looking like stock at this price may be in only one store - and rep added.

The only question I have is does it work with .srt files?

love the way people on here react by saying maybe you should of gone to school
sheff_uk fact is you only think your way of spelling and talking are right because thats what you have been told, so maybe my way is the right way we will never know, stop listening to people and following them all the time come out of ya bubble and stand up for your individuality

No, Grundig don't make anything anymore - it's a brand of the Alba/Bush/Goodmans group.

Consensus seems to be that these are from Apex Digital (a large supplier to Wal*Mart, Asda's US parent company) and manufactured in China.

Great deal for a tenner and ideal as a secondary player. USB is only 1.1 so is very slow - especially reading files from larger memory sticks/hard drives, and there are some AVI incompatibilities - it will play video recorded on my Archos but with no sound.

Yeah, I was doing that for a while but it becomes tedious - especially for 1CD rips which I usually burn on a RW, watch and then delete. I just need a DivX, USB, HDMI upscaling DVD player that will play .srt files directly from the source without having the need to convert to .vob format, hardcoding, etc.

I have a sumvision phoenix DVD player which has a USB port and displays SRT subtitle files. Also HDMI upscaling.

Which model do you have? I can select a time point, to jump to, on my Philips dvp5990 dvd player.
