I got a couple of these at the weekend, Hot!
#2
-5 is not very cold, I tried this it freezes very easily
#3
It's mix and match so you can get Holts De-icer spray as well.
#4
-5 isn't concentrated, it's not even a very good ready-to-use.
#5
well i used this today at -2 and my washers worked even although they were covered in snow.
I put this in my car a week ago undiluted and for £1 a bottle its great
#6
Can anyone advise where you can get screen wash which is suitable at lower temps?

Link doesnt work
But if the link goes to
B&Q Methylated Spirits Mineralised 500ml at £2.98 then yes....that stuff
Be VERY careful as it is very flammable

I drive a van which has a washer bottle that holds nearly a gallon of washer fluid. I add about 250mls (which is half the amount in the b and q bottle) of meths to it and it doesnt freeze

One more thing, I use concentrated screenwash in my washer bottle as well as meths.
Only in winter months of course.

I use ready mixed which I dilute a little bit further - will this make a difference?

Yea it will make a difference, you might have to use a bit more meths.

Good price for basic screenwash but wouldnt recommend for the winter.

I nabbed a bottle of Volkswagen's own screen wash from my sisters car - rated to something crazy like -70C i think. Was left in the car after a service lol.

The stuff hasnt frozen yet and its been diluted like 1:10. Its around -2C where i am.

This is the stuff from fleabay but dont know why its £13.99 postage:

edit: just noticed box of 10 lol

Not good for your paint!!!!!!!

Just buy concentrated (it's cheap enough) and dilute to recommended high concentration for colder weather - or even use it undiluted. We all love a bargain but really this stuff isn't expensive even at normal price in supermarkets, etc. Just don't run out and find you have to buy it at a Motorway service area (mortgages are available!).

I dont see how you would need much lower than -5, coz your windscreen washer tank is under your bonnet and therefore not exposed to wind chill etc, and is also insulated slightly therefore the outside temp would need to be -8 or lower for it to be of any concern and for the price its worth it.

...and where are the washer jets?

Of course you need better stuff than this in winter.

Lidl's concentrated goes down to about - 40/50. I use it all the time, never freezes.

Do not listen to this ^^^^

For starters wind chill does not affect the temperature, it's just the rate at which the temperature will drop, likewise for the insulation. Considering most people leave their cars in the cold for most of the day/night (leaving lots of time for the solution to drop to the outside temperature) the wind chill factor is completely irrelevant.

Secondly, the temperature has dropped to quite a bit lower than -8 anyway.

Thirdly, I had this stuff in my car and it froze, get something better for these temperatures.

I use the Tesco version and it has not frozen so far, bit more expensive but then might be able to use that in lower temperatures, might want to check it out.

Er yes, but where is the windscreen? No point spraying it and it just freezes all over it .

LIDL may still have the 5 litres of German -60˚c concentrate for £4.99 mine has about 8 bottles left. You can find how much water you are buying here...

Some of the ready to use ones are little more than designer water.

This is NOT 'concentrate' - headline is very misleading and the product is no use in winter (yes, it's the Asda description which is misleading, not OP's fault).

If you put it in your car and it freezes, what are you going to do to get it out. Your car could actually become unusable until a thaw. All to save a few pennies! This has got 261 (undiscriminating) degrees!

A bit overdramatic! If it did happen, just start your engine and let it warm up. The heat from the engine will thaw the washer tank, might take a little patience but it will happen!

It may not be very likely but it is certainly possible. You're not talking about a few mins to thaw either - depending on where your washer bottle is. Just not worth the risk for a minimal saving.

I agree about buying concentrate, which I buy in 25L tubs.
But, on a very cold morning, it still freezes when the stuff hits the windscreen.
Meths might not be good for the paintwork but it sure is good for the vision!

it gets even colder because of the cold air rushing into the engine bay when driving at speed. have you heard of "wind chill factor" if outside temo is -5 then bottle temp would be double that
