Hmm.....
You can buy a decent dell in this kind of budget.
or build your own "Nettop".

The nearest equivalent I can find on Dell is the Zino which once you add a BluRay drive is £459, you do get Windows 7 and a bigger HD though.

I don't know about the price of building a nettop as I bought the non-BR Asrock Ion a while back. I have it running Ubuntu and XBMC and besides the usual beggaring about getting linux and XBMC to work properly it's been excellent.. Ah except one other thing the power light failed after about a month, a common fault apparently, annoying but not a big enough problem to consider the hassle of a warranty return.

How is this getting voted cold?

Very good net top with a Blu-Ray drive at a great price.

I have one of these and paid over £315 for it with Bluray. One thing to consider is these dont come with any OS or any software which will play Blurays so you will have to shell out for these before you have a fully functioning media centre.

Its a great machine though and blasts through HD material with ease, the price is about to drop on these models though as a newer revision is due soon which comes with a Media Centre remote and a few other ports like eSata, built in WiFi etc.

These are great bits of kit and this is a good price. I was looking last week and couldn't see any of the blu-ray & remote kits for less than about £340 delivered.

As others have said there are new netbook/top CPUs & GPUs out next year, but this is always the case and tbh this does everything you need for a small, quiet, efficient HTPC.

To save people clicking, its £297.79 delivered.

This is VERY HOT

A full blown media computer, which will play 1080p and has a blu ray drive.

I paid £315 delivered for this a couple of months back - there is a new version out now which might explain the price drop. The new one comes with a remote conrtol and built in wireless.

I'm very happy with it & the new features arn't worth it for me as I've gone for the logitech mini dinovo for a remote and my wireless is no good for streaming HD media over anyway.

edit - oh and what blu-ray software are you guys using to play films on? Strangly it doesn't come with any!

Too noisy for the living room, I sent mine back. Great value if you've got a glass TV cabinet or something to block the noise.

Thats what torrents are for:pirate:, xp is so so easy to pirate as are most things.
There are quite a few posts on avforums about the noise with fan on this this, but surely it can not be louder than the original xbox whixh i used for years and it did not really bother me at all.
I have a acer revo 330(paid 150 somthing) with dual boot xbmc/xp, this on paper is just as good value (its ready to roll with bluray so no need to splash out on a external drive).
Xbmc is great but can be a big hassel to get it running perfect.

Really, do you watch silent movies????

I have mine sat right in front of my TV, dont even notice it.. think my V+ hard disk makes more noise!!!! In fact, I can even here the fridge in the kitchen down the corridor over the ION...!!!

Its really not that bad... its a mere whisper which is easily wiped out by normal tv audio volume....

New Model without Blue Ray
Price: £279.99 (Free Delivery)
http://www.tekheads.co.uk/product/ASRock-ION-330HT-with-Remote-Intel-Atom-Dual-Core-330-2GB-RAM-320GB-HDD_24972.html

Ordered ION 330HT + Remote and one its way.

Is it worth paying the extra £65 for the Blue Ray?

Is there any other model with similar or better specs?

Thanks
