I've changed that MTU in network settings to 1473 and been playing all day with no problems. When you change MTU, restart the rooter

MTU??? Spread the love...?

http://www.product-reviews.net/2014/12/28/ps4-users-change-mtu-settings-to-fix-psn-sign-in/

The Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) is the largest size of IP datagram which may be transferred using a specific data link connection The MTU value is a design parameter of a LAN and is a mutually agreed value (i.e. both ends of a link agree to use the same specific value) for most WAN links.

The size of MTU may vary greatly between different links (e.g. typically from 128 B up to 10 kB).The prevalent Path MTU on the Internet is now 1500 bytes, the Ethernet MTU. There are some initiatives to support larger MTUs in networks (e.g. 8 KB), in particular on research networks. But their usability is hampered by last-mile deployment of Ethernet with an MTU of 1500 and lack of robustness of Path MTU Discovery. This lead to a more robust method being defined in [RFC4821].

The transport layer (TCP or UDP) is unaware of the particular path taken by an IP packet as it travels through a network. It therefore does not know what size of IP packet to generate. Too small a packet may be inefficient (i.e. there may be little data compared to lots of header), a larger packet is therefore more efficient. Too large an IP packet may exceed the MTU of the links over which the packet may be sent, causing fragmentation.

so you changed a setting that you obviously know nothing about and restarted the router and it works. Do you wanna know what worked, do ya, it was the restart -.-

Changing the MTU from what was prob 1500 to 1473 (the general standard for internal 10/100 systems) will have done sweet FA seeing as the backbone and a lot of other people are moving to cat6 etc, while not needed it helps to support what's known as jumbo frames, these go over 9000, so yea in sure you did loads. All you really did was a windows fix, clear cache/tmp and restart all services, which is actually a fix you should of tried long before even thinking of the MTU, now enjoy your new setting, the implications it could cause later on and you will never remember it's all cause on this day you changed the MTU rofl

Same with the xbox. Both networks have been hacked. Blame the muppets who hacked the network because they were 'bored'.

Wow what a stuck up know it all you are! I've changed mine as well after restarting everything countless times to no avail. So I changed the settings this morning and hey presto I'm back on PSN. Not sure why you feel the need to come in and shoot people down when I see you offering no suitable alternative solution. Instead of blowing smoke and acting smug how about helping people with your obviously extraordinary knowledge.

Sony recommend owners just try rebooting their system first.
