Excellent gift - got it for my boyfriend last year for slightly more money.

I would recommend you save about £25 extra for the photos they take on the day when you drive around (that way you get the CD and a large printed photo). Also if you are going with the person you are buying it for it may be worth phoning in advance to see if you can do one of the other things they offer which are cheaper (skid control experience, etc). I personally decided to do them on the day but they were booked up. There is a cafe there too or you can go to the far end of the circuit near where the cars start, on the grass incline, which gives good viewing. If you like photography take your camera, I got decent shots of the cars stationary and moving whilst trying to entertain myself.

So overall it was a much loved present, he was so happy that he has given me really good memories and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who thinks their partner would like it. (I know there does not seem to be many laps but it was worth it for us).

Want to give a day at the racetrack as a gift so any help appreciated...

1st choice is single seater (much faster/more thrills) but supercars are much cheaper (aston martin/lamborghini)

Does anyone have experience of single seater racing (both would be fantastic) and is it worth the extra?

Thanks in advance

Says £79 for me

Did one a couple of weeks ago from same site, bit disappointed, wasn't on proper track, although race track was there, drove on long stretch of runway with cones and all over in 6 mins! kept being told to pull over as instructors where screaming around in rally cars for passenger rides!

That's less than 60 mph average, not a good deal for me if I wanted to drive an AM, but not voting either way

I guess it depends on what you want out of it ...most of these sub £100 rides tend to be for just a few minutes with severe limits on speed etc.

Thank you

1 lap of Silverstone in an AMV8 for £79.

Up to you decide if that's value for money.

Unfortunately the track you use is down to other circumstances on the day. Perhaps you could make it clear in you rbookign you are only interested in going on the main track (at least part of it)

As far as i'm aware you get 3 laps not 1 (5 in the Lotus)

First lap is under heavy tuition. Following laps seemed to be down to the level of the driver, they were going faster than I expected and looked to be having fun.

I'm sure if you were doing it it would feel like it was over far too quickly though!

When I looked in the Summer there was a 'last minute' type section on the Official Site with drives for £50 in the R8 and Ferrari and Lotus. But you had to drive within about 2 weeks.

Edit: http://www.silverstone.co.uk/experiences/driving-days/?pgid=2486&type=all-special-offers None of the cheapy ones available right now.

I went to this race day last week: http://www.palmersport.com/palmersport-gt.aspx

Expensive, but you get what you pay for, several laps in 4 different cars with first class instructors and a decent lunch!

If my GF got me this for Xmas, I'd dump her!

Got 1 of these thrill rides for my dad 2 year ago for £100 and a £100 spa day for my mum. They both wasted them, my dad forgot to book in for it and by the time i managed to get him to do it the voucher or whatever it was had expired. And my mum decided she didnt want pampering and only got her nails done at the spa.
Lets just say i was peed off and from now on i only get them something for under £50 for christmas.

I know a few people who went on the thrill ride and said it was a waste of time and money, i suppose if you really like the sports car thats booked for you then its not so bad. Me personally would rather have the money.

PS. Wouldnt it be cheaper to dress smart and book a test drive at a Aston Martin dealership, drive it around then when you get back say your not interested. or can you not do that? lol

unpinmcleod: Hi, it is up to you if it is worth 3-4 hours drive as I am unsure how much it means to you to drive Silverstone (or at least part of it) in an Aston. He got 3 laps with say a minute to two minutes each so you don't get long and it is was the South side of the Circuit but he really enjoyed it so in my opinion it was certainly worth me getting him this experience (it made him so happy). Just dont forget to book it. Also you asked about speed so I have just checked; my boyfriend says that the guy encouraged him to put his foot to the floor as he came out of the corners.

royals: Hi, although I had only just got my DSLR you are right that you can take a decent shot from the side and crop it. I will have to check the photos when I am home but I think that if you have the zoom, a tripod and the quality you can nealy rival the shot taken by Silverstone (it was a really good shot of him inside the car with motion blur for the background). I was unsure at the time how well my shots would turn out so bought the photo set too so he could upload them. I just wanted to warn people in the posting that they may want to also consider the cost of the photo, maybe they don't have a superzoom camera so it was a 'just for info' message. Sorry to hear your Rockingham pictures were laughable. I do think these Silverstone ones were really excellent and you can see them on the screens and decide for yourself before you buy.

Hope this helps someone and if needed can look to upload the photos or ask my boyfriend more questions. He really did have an excellent morning driving (the good weather helped too) and I am really happy of the memories. :santa:

That will be the insurance requirements of the race track. Can hardly blame the 'Thrill Ride' company.
