Hackintosh these?

Good price for a machine with positive reviews.

The battery should be a 6 cell! if it has a six hour lifetime! If you purchase and its only 3 - go back to amazon and complain - they will compensate the difference!
#5
Definately 3 cell!

are these good for youtube/watching tv online/ playing games etc? or barely powerful enough for simple tasks like sending emails?

I have the Zoostorm Freedom mini laptop (same processor) but with 2gbs of RAM in it it can play 720p HD movies no problem and the occasional 1080p.
On-line & YouTubes etc are a breeze.

I wouldn't bother to try & play games on it, I doubt it could do much, certainly nothing recent or demanding well, but as a mobile media player & net accesss (the n class wi-fi is very good) when travelling they can't be beat IMHO.

Compared to any of the mp3/mp4 players out there and you get so much more memory, ability & versatilty.
I can also use those 2.5" external (USB powered) hard drives & a slim/mini CD/DVD drive for even more media if I want.

Mine runs Windows XP, I don't know how this Windows 7 basic works (but if it's any guide the Windows Vista SP2 basic works fine on my wife's laptop).

Used to have one of these, gorgeous little netbook - battery is a 3 cell and I'm pretty sure you can't put a bigger one in - but does last around 4 hours!

The 1008HA is all about looks and it is a stunner, very slim and stylish

It has most things you want from a netbook - small, wifi, bt, plenty of space etc etc

The gloss finish does attract fingerprints and you can fry it if you the upgrade to 2GB goes wrong!

I'd recommend them and I'd have another tomorrow, but using an MSI Wind U100+ which is almost identical in spec

Hot :)

Ease of returns and or repairs by buying direct from amazon rather than a marketplace seller is definitely worth £2 extra

would someone who has this be so good as to let us know how much "junk" is preinstalled and if its possible/how to return it to just a clean OS install state?

thank you.

is there anything close to this price/features wise?

will it be able to play movies from an SD card and from its own HD? i am thinking .Vob filea and the like via media player etc.

thank you.

Has Windows 7 starter, a waste of time as you will just end up having to buy the full programme as I had to do. with hindsight should have gone for xp

I have had this netbook for 6 months and it is superb. I paid £234 from SimplyAsus and it was the best price in the market at the time by £30 so £199 is excellent value. In response to pfpf - it came with the usual junk but not loads. I did a clean install of ubuntu 10.04 and it runs like a dream. I couldn't be happier with a machine that I carry everywhere for browsing and email. Battery is OK - 4 hours constant use with wifi, bluetooth and video streaming is achievable on a full charge. I have 2 other laptops (work and the wife's) and the 1008ha is the best for quick operation and ease of use. very good keyboard and mouse pad too.

Hackintosh these?

From what I can see it's possible but there are a few issues with regards to the internal wireless card not being compatible along with the ethernet card - they may however be soon addressed with new kext files that are being made, from what I could see.

Of course if money is an issue you could consider using Linux on this netbook or installing Windows XP Home/Professional Edition if you have a copy (legal of course!) lying around.
