why does a Chromebook need to be in excess of £200? Have things changed hugely the last couple of years?

for some reason the same unit with the symbol of a piece of fruit on it would cause people to vote hot and sell way more.... and hence the expensive of marketing departments is justified....

Not entirely accurate really. This only has 64gb storage, and whereas a MacBook has the best operating system, this barely has an operating system at all.

Best operating system? It runs Win10?

Good joke, windows 10 is pretty terrible despite using daily but can't say I've used osx.

I've not voted hot or cold as for someone who does want one this may be a deal. Personally I have never understood the appeal of chromebooks. Well maybe the really cheap ones have their place but I can't see the point of spending this much on a chrome book when for the same price (or even less) you could get a normal laptop that will run everything.

Now I see Microsoft trying to take the same route with their Windows 10 S madness. Something I see going down about as well as a lead balloon. Things seem to be devolving.

I bought a chromebook for the slim design, 4-8 hr battery life and 1080p 4gb setup. I agree did take getting used to but for 150 quid it's pretty good.

I freaking lov my cp100a and was hotly wanting this but...

My cp100a was £199 a year ago and it's now £249.
It's next gen varient, this Chromebook, is SO much cheaper in the US it's literally cheaper to buy, ship and buy the legal tax on it.

They are really **** over UK and EU ATM (Asus I mean).

Also available at Amazon at the same price drop

I love my chromebook and would love one of these with the extra storage, better processor and screen plus backlit keyboard, but I am not sure if £529 is too much, would be much more tempted at a lower price.

It would save you exactly £30 if you ordered from the USA and paid all the taxes as it comes £499 from Amazon you would also get a US keyboard and need to get a UK plug charger or adaptor so it's not really any cheaper!

My ranting and annoyance was based at working it out from a week or so ago. I'm sure it was closer to £599 than £499. My point still stands though. Even with taxes and such Asus really stuck a knife in for UK over the last year.i do love my Chromebook, the battery life and durability for work is just silly.
But £249 now when it was £199 well over a year ago is very annoying.

I would say Windows 10 (with the caveat of what ms may or may not be capturing) is better than macbook os as the learning curve to change from windows 10 is too high.
