Asus Eee Pad Transformer - From £379.00 @ Amazon

Amazon have opened the pre-order for this device.

You can buy the tablet alone for £379.99, or with the keyboard for £429.99.

The tablet runs Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), has 1GHz dual core processor, WIFI only, 1GB RAM, 10.1" capacitive screen. The most impressive thing about this device though is that the keyboard has it's own battery and when used with the tablet extends the battery life from 9 hours to 16 hours.

I wouldn't be put off by the device only having 16GB of storage either as it can handle full size SD cards and USB memory sticks / drives.

Sounds good, although it might be worth waiting till a few more devices are released, I can see there being a major price war starting on these tabelts once the ball gets rolling..
#2
The question is, is this better than the Motorola Xoom or an Ipad? Tempted for an upgrade from the Archos 101 to either Ipad or Android tab with 3.0.
#3
This is looking more like a device I'd buy. Can't quite justify it yet though.
#4
good find op but ill wait for the motorolla xoom and samsung tab to come out before deciding which one to buy but at this price its quite tempting so hot from me
#5
This is the device i have been waiting for!! Anyone else stocking them?

Pc World will be stocking them if you wanted to see one when its released, they will also have a few new tablets too
#7
I personally would wait a couple of months, let them fix the major bugs in Honeycomb and there'll be more competition about so prices should come down.

THanks, I get 10% off pcworld through my work scheme so thats ideal!

This completely trounces the Xoom.

This is a brilliant product although not quite the thin form factor of the ipad 2 or galaxy tab 8.9/10.1.

Price is brilliant as well.
#10
Looks an absolute bargain considering the galaxy and xoom are thought to be atleast £100 more (dont quote me on that) Love being a student that works for Currys part time!

hope so though i bet apple wont join in.....i like the ipad as its beautifully made....unfortunately i dont like

the price
connectivity to anything non apple is a nightmare or not possible
no flash - joke
no flash memory - joke we know why
no usb - joke we know why

the above applies to the iphone - i have an iphone which is my first apple product and possibly last - apple have alienated a customer by being pig headed...ive had my iphone for over 3 years and have stopped buying apps as i ran out of room...ages ago...so who is the loser....apple....dunces...the amount of money they get from unlimited storage of apps would far outweigh the money they get on the extra cost of higher storage iphone or ipad

Get a NAS setup at home so every single device will share multi TBs of storage
#16
Link to the keyboard one:

The keyboard also extends the battery life. This is the one I would go for if I had the need/money

Sure, why have the choice to buy alternative products when you can be a sheep!

By the way it's "crap" not carp.

What's your definition of "the best"? The most expensive? I cannot see any technical nor financial reasons why this item is crap compared to the ipad.

App store has more Apps than Android.
Operating system on ipad is miles better.
Andoid is open source and has already been compromised by a virus.
Ipad build quality is better.
Look at ipad sales - they hold 70% market share.
Need i say more?

You usually can't write crap on a forum that is why i used carp.

I'd rather be a sheep and get the best Tablet currently available.
I guess you bought a betamax video - you might be too young to remember those.

Didn't the IPhone have the major market share too? Not anymore, and soon it will overtaken. I (like many other people) believe this will be the case with the tablet market too. But who cares about market share?

Android is far from crap, maybe you haven't used on a good device, but I promise you it's very smooth OS.

I prefer the Android market market more, it allows more apps to pass through on to the market, unlike the app store, and due to the market share change, Android will soon have a greater number of apps. Also don't forget the Apple had 2 years on Google.

Edit - Please tell me you didn't just compare it to the Betamax!

Are the SD slot and USB ports on the tablet, or on the keyboard?

Here's a good reason for you. Openness. Have you used Android? My guess is probably not, as someone who owns an Android phone, and used to own an iPhone I can say that I "prefer" Android.

What is it with Apple fanboys believing that their is no substitue for the iPhone / iPad? Do you think Steve Jobs and his gang invented touch screens or even the idea of a tablet?

Apple have made very good products in the iPhone and iPad. Google have made a very good product in Android 3.0 OS.

This device will suit people who want something different and ASUS make quality hardware. I really didn't want this thread to get into the Apple vs. Android same old same old......

The pre-orders will ship then, you will be able to buy from Wednesday instore at Comet, PC World, Carphone Warehouse etc

You can pick up a 2nd hand iPad 1 for around £200 on eBay now.

However, this baby has a dual core processor, honeycomb AND a capacitive screen for a comparatively "budget" price @ £379 compared to it's posh showoff bigger brother the iPad 2.

I say this is a great deal! Voted HOT!

What an idiot. Betamax was the superior format, which means you would have bought it.

The ipad1/2 is still 1st generation technology with no clear use. Spending out on the most expensive at this stage is nothing to be proud of.

Savvy people would wait this latest craze. An Asus slate with core i5 sandybridge running windows will be expensive, but should be the best by far. It will do wirelss HDMi, which will make the ipad2 look very dated fast (especially with apple charging £60 just to get HDMi and a USB camera adapters)

Talking of buying the best and most expensive. I would spend double the price of an ipad to have a convenient proper tablet computer than runs my trusty windows apps and massive back catalogue of games. Not wait to be told by tendy people with man-bags which latest apps I should let take over my life.

You carried on about the build quality in Mac threads, yet its only the case apple build to a better standard. The components they charge double for are off the same shelf Asus, Dell, Acer and Toshiba use. £25 to connect my camera via usb ? £35 to get HDMi to my bigger display devices? come off it.

The ipad is a lifestyle object that most people need to find excuses to buy and laughably claim laptops suddenly were never good enough after all these decades.

The £120 dealextreme 7" tablet would be a far more savvy buy at this early stage for people who still need proper computing (via their current PC or laptop).

I'll take back some of what I said about the ipad when apps are released that make me more productive, earn me more money and can replace my entertainment needs from other gadgets and media. ipad 5?

Before anyone spends their hard earned money, remember we are being heavily marketed to by the likes of Apple. In the old days you bought a computer to run the software needed to get a job done. Cheaper tablets will get the job done and you can happily throw it in the bin when it starts to struggle, whilst Apple owners are still stroking their fancy metal cases.

Its about quality not quantity
Thats a matter of opinion - I think that android has a much better interface
Open source is an advantage not a disadvantage
The device hasn't been released yet, how can you compare build quality?
Well of course this device isn't going to have a bigger market share than the ipad...it hasn't been released yet.

£50 extra for converting the tablet into a netbook, what a steal! Nevertheless, hot.

Do I need this? No. Do I want this? Yes. What a difficult choice...

The keyboard has another battery in it to extend the battery life considerably, up to 16 hrs.

Yeah, plus an SD slot and 2 USB ports.

I just wish that some day it will be possible to load some Linux distro on this thing, natively, to make it a more productive device rather than just a consumerist one.

After having owned an iPad and an android tablet I have to agree with a lot of the posts here where people are saying that ATM tablets just aren't worth it. Personally after the wow factor ran out I was finding it difficult to find anything that I could do on a tablet that I couldn't do easier or quicker (especially typing) on my iPhone! Also the fact that all tablets ATM are media consumption devices is a little short sighted, since media creation is not possible (like video editing WITH PROPER VIDEO imported from a camera rather than using a crappy mobile camera). There is potential tho, so maybe ina year or two

For people looking for a "sexy" tablet that is productive, I'd recommend picking up a Joojoo (they appear on eBay now and then, usually for less than £200)

As it is it's useless because the standard software is rubbish, but the hardware is a 12.1" capitative screen with essentially a netbook spec atom CPU and nvidea ion graphics chip so it quite happily runs windows 7, as the hdd is4gb I also upgraded it to a 32gb hdd for £50 so for around £250 I've now got a tablet pc that comfortably plays all 1080p, can play pc games (steam is amazing), and media creation programs, am v impressed and would recommend
