Well I noticed my mistake.
I was shocked when I see the "Solid State Drive" up there, so I checked, apparently it is HDD.

Again... The samsung NC10 has the same spec... looks better and battery life of 7 hrs...

(£309 at ebuyer or Amazon)

So I call this cold... and the cheapest elsewhere at £500 is robbery.

Sorry OP :(

Cold !!!

The "160 GB Solid State Drive" is a clear mistake if you check it around.

The same item (but with Linux OS) sold at £289.99 + 5% RAC discount = £274.50 at Play.com! In stock now!

I remembered that the identical item (with Windows XP) was sold at £319.99 + 5% RAC discount at Play.com before.

Here is the link for the Linux version: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/8076600/Asus-Eee-PC-1000-H-Atom-N270-1-6GHz-1GB-160GB-10-Linux-NetBook-Black/Product.html

The HE is a new model,

Asus has announced a newly updated Eee netbook called the Eee 1000HE that is available for pre-order right now. The netbook claims to be the first machine on the market to use the new Intel N280 Atom CPU. The machine also uses the Super Hybrid Engine to boost CPU speed and get extended battery life from the machine.

Features include 802.11b/g/n network connectivity and Bluetooth. Internal storage is to a 160GB HDD and Asus offers 10GB of encrypted online storage space. Battery life is reported to be 9.5 hours from Asus.

The new Asus keyboard is used on the 1000HE, which looks much like the keyboard on a MacBook and puts the right shift key in the correct space, a complaint many have with the Eee keyboard.

Mini-Review here, seems better than the NC10 in every area to me including looks and battery life, and in the USA where its already released its the best selling netbook on Amazon.com

Yep this is the new trend ...

High priced netbooks for those who have more money than sense - the old 1000H at £290 or so - as was a few months ago - was a decent specced netbook at about the limit of what one should pay.

Clever ASUS adds a bit of bling - yes sure it's got a slightly faster CPU - slightly faster FSB - battery might be a little better - but no better graphics and Woah ! the price jumps at least £50.

Sorry ASUS (and I guess Samsung etc etc are gonna do the same thing) you're not fleecing me for what is still a poxy little netbook that can do little more than web browse and run a few basic office apps.

NETBOOKS SHOULD COST NO MORE THAN AROUND £280 TOPS - EVEN WITH XP, 10" SCREEN, 6-CELL BATTERY AND 160GB HDD. GOT THAT ASUS, SAMSUNG MSI ETC

THIS IS A **** DEAL AND ONLY IDIOTS WANTING THEIR LATEST TOYS WOULD GET EXCITED BY THIS!

RANT OVER !!

I totally agree with you, and I haven't bought one because they are too expensive. But I still want one for the "wow" factor. Guess I'll be sticking with the desktop.

I think its only this price as they are the first to offer a pre-order for it. Once its in the marketplace the price will settle to around the current 1000H price, I think its available stateside for $349 so its not a premium netbook (ALA S101 etc).

just web browsing and a few basic office apps? And winamp, and VLC for divx and 720p HD files. And quite a few games. Where did you get the figure of £280?

£280 was the price of a 1000H with XP, 160GB and 6 cell battery two months ago! before ASUS and Samsung etc realise they could really start fleecing customers.

According to http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/asus-eee-pc-1000he.aspx?page=3 ...

The new 1000HE scores just 50 points more on PCMark05 than the 1000H.

Graphics performance was below average for the netbook category - despite using the latest N280 atom CPU, ASUS did not bother to put the new GN40 chipset in - but used the existing 945GSE one.

OK I was a bit harsh on the abilities of netbooks - but when they start costing £330+, then you know you are being ripped off!!!!!!

This one is one of the best netbooks guys, its definetly worth 330, its got a chicklet apple style keyboard, very comfy apparently, very long battery life, slightly longer than NC10, the only thing thats a minus for me is that its slightly bigger than the usual netbooks.
I am surprised ppl comparing this to H, H & HE are different, HE is new with redesigned hardware, new proc (although no great speed bump), new keyboard, much better battery life, this is selling like a hot cake right now in US, where it was released a few weeks ago.

my two cents...
