Great wee system, far better battery life than the NC10...and doesn't come with as much crufty software pre-installed to slow down the system and forcefully impose partitioning on you.

Great price, these were a *lot* more only a few months ago.

About £60 less now..

I'd also Like to know if these netbooks can play HD (i.e. mkv) movies.

would these newer eeepc's take the same sized (dimension wise) batteries as the 900?
#9
Is this a lower spec model than the 1000HE?

well they dont have a cd drive for one, so would have to download it or play it via usb

I see NO reason at all why you'd want to spend the extra money on this instead of the 1000H. This one has a slighty 'smaller' feel about it due to the 'seashell' design it has where the screen opens behind the keyboard to give it a smaller look, but unless the details are wrong, then this is the lower-spec version of the 1005HA. There's a better version with a better battery, and a better cpu. This appears to have the same CPU as the 1000H, same ram, same battery I think), but a better keyboard for touch-typing, if you're after a bigger right-shift key. Although, the arrow and pg up/pg down buttons are compressed to make room.

I'd appreciate if it someone else could give a pro's and cons compared with the 1000H. I certainly can't justify paying the extra for this model as of now.

I think that if you already have the 1000HA or the likes I would not upgrade to this. I never had a netbook to start with so bought what I think was the best for my needs without going over the £300 mark.

|Reviews I've read point at the version with a *slightly* better cpu, and state that these do/should/can play 720p video ok, but as for 1080p.. you may be pushing it. tbh, you can get a very capable pc tower for well under £300 that will do the job. I see no reason why you'd ever require HD video on a netbook.. afterall, the highest resolution in HD terms is limited to 600 with these. I'm assuming you're on about playing a blu-ray or something, in which case you'd need a blu-ray compatible external drive... not a combo recommended for a netbook by any means.

I've just bought a tower for £250 from overclockers.co.uk, and a widescreen 22" dell monitor for a total of £385 that is more than enough for HD video. A netwbook is going to compliment this for portability and work/music/standard-def video whenever I'm on the move, which is what these are for at the end of the day.. You really shouldn't buy a netbook if you're aiming to play HD content/games etc :P

Hi

I was planning to buy the NC10, is this one really better?
#15
Correct me if I';m wrong, but the NC10 has been reportd to have a terribly annoying track pad. I personally would got for the 1000H for £245, as opposed to this one unless you aren't on a tight budget. I was interested in the NC10 until I heard about the trackpad. Although, I'm sure there's a Samsung NC10, and another brand of NC10, both of which scored very highly in the cnet top-10 netboom roundup. Do a little research on them all, but for me, the EEE PC 1000H or this one would be the best choice.

I think the N270 is sold out by Amazon. However, I've just ordered the N280, which I was going to do anyway. I was put off the Samsung NC10 because the speakers are meant to be rubbish (my only reservation). I didn't buy the 1000H because of the keyboard.

This is the sweet spot for me. From the Netbookchoice website:

"As we reported earlier, there are two (quite different) UK SKUs for the Eee PC 1005HA. The model that we were sent is the Eee PC 1005HA-WHI064X. This particular version is the white 1005HA powered by a 1.6GHz N270 Atom CPU. Compared to the more expensive N280 Atom model, this model has a lower capacity 6-cell battery, no Bluetooth, no netbook sleeve, a matte screen (N280 SKU has a glossy screen) and a 0.3MP webcam (N280 SKU has a 1.3MP webcam)."
#17
Hmm.. to follow on from that, users should be aware that matt screens are much better if you are planning on using the netbbok outside where sunlight may reflect off the screen.. gloss screens are meant to be pretty terrible for outdoor use. That said, gloss screens are better if you're using the netbbok indoors primarily. The 6-cell battery is still a 6-cell battery, so you will typically get about 5-6 hours use out of it per charge.

Again, comparing this model witht the 1000H, the latter has bluetooth 2.0 as standard, and a 1.3mp camera.

Think I'm gonna go ahead and order a 1000H today :D

Can't handle HD movies unfortunately - there's no graphics acceleration, and the CPU is too slow to do all the work itself. If you want to watch HD content, wait for the next generation of ION-based notebooks, due out in a month or two:
