If looks are important this is one of the best looking netbooks, and definitely hot at this price. Shame its only this price on the black one.
#2
There's no easy way of upgrading the RAM on this model, so you're stuck with 1GB.
#3
looks great spec for price.
#4
Ideal for linux :) hot!
#5
Which is better this or the Samsung NC10?
#6

Just a heads up, this is the 1001HA as opposed to the 1008HA. Amongst other things the 1008HA has a n280 processor against the 1001HA's n270, making the 1008HA here a much better buy.

As for the samsung NC10, I'd take the 1008HA over it . I think it has a better style (personal opinion) plus the processor is better.
#7
That's the 1001 on Play....
#8

Can't compare, but I can tell you the Asus will have to be very good to be better then the Samsung NC10. I have had one for a year and it's great.
#9

Samsung + Play.com = Bad idea.

Reasonably priced Asus + a dedicated Asus reseller = Hot.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago at £246 direct which was then the lowest price. It's brilliant. Fast and great screen. Sorry to differ with the chap who says you can't upgrade ram, yes you can, 1 screw to undo on base, lift the flap, spring the existing 1gb ram out, put the (max) 2gb ram in and close up, re-boot. Or you can get it upgraded at the time of purchase direct from Simplyasus, about £35. (slows delivery) You don't get your 1gb ram module back mind, so may be better to buy from independant at about the same, and then sell your 1gb on.

At £199 it's a steal.

Hope this helps.:santa:

Correction, mine is the 1005HA. I understand that the 1008HA is not so simple to upgrade, but will still accept 2gb max. Call Asus is the easy way. Aplogies
#13
only thing that puts me off is the non replaceable battery. Anybody know if its possible to swap them out once you open it up?
#14
Great deal. Friend of kine purchased one for circa £250 a month ago before he headed to Oz land. I was very impressed with it, very egronomic keypad and a good preforming, good looking net book

My gf has a samsung (unsure of model), and I find the keyboard a little harder to use (because of position of mousepad and spacebar)
#15
Just be warned with laptops direct if you have a problem there customer service is notoriously pants, so for an extra pound or two i always buy elsewhere
#16
Thanks, been waiting for a good netbook for under £200, just a shame it wasnt in white.

The newer ones of this, which as far as I can see have a bigger HD and windows 7, is over £300 at amazon.

It is possible to upgrade the memory and/or the hard disk but you literally need to take the netbook apart - if you attempt to do this then you will invalidate the warranty for it from all accounts (more down to the design of it from what I've been hearing).

Totally agree, looks a nightmare unless you are rather patient and pretty careful

oooh..off topic- but what's the hp mini 110-1125nr like? I got it for Crimbo, but haven't opened it yet cos i'm not sure if i wanna keep it.. its got windows 7 onit..how much is it worth?
#21
pretty hot I've got the 1005HA and it is a beauty. The battery life is amazing and it has handled everything I've thrown at it so far. IMO you don't need more than 1GB for a netbook especially if what you use it for is web browsing and simple applications. But on the other hand if you are going to for some bizzare reason use it for video rendering then yes more than 1GB would be better.

Good deal in my view :)
#22
Can the battery be replaced?
banned#23
1009ha seems a better option in the long run, due to the new n450 saving power.
#24
Do you think this one is a better deal than the £150 Dell Inspiron 9 going at PC World? I know the website's down but in store they still have some. Which would be the better buy for the money. I don't have much to spend on a netbook so I want to make sure the extra £50 is worth it - and I'm not too bothered about the HD as I can use an external.

Hot for the 1008, but I'd rather have a 1005.

Each to his or her own, though!
#27
Does all I want it to do and a great price - ordered! Heat + rep left for OP

Thanks

Whats the difference between 1005 and 1008 ?

Whats this like compared to a dell mini 9?

Whats the difference between 1005 and 1008 ?

The 1005 has a larger, removable battery, is a bit thicker and the memory is easier to upgrade. It's only a bit more expensive than this hot price, which in turn is cheaper than the regular price for a 1008.

I wasn't sure whether to go for this or the Dell Mini 9. But went for this in the end.

Thank OP heat and rep left.

Can the battery be replaced?

If I remember correctly you'd need to send this back to ASUS to do, as the battery is meant to be non-removable for this model.

If you want to install Mac OSX on these everything works except the wifi and ethernet.

So to get internet to work you need to change the wifi card inside or use a usb wifi adapter

The catch is I remember there being a very small amount of USB wireless dongles that could be used with the Mac OS X on a Hacintosh - I'll see if I can hunt out the article but there was a good write-up out there on the internet with regards to which dongles were confirmed as being fully compatible.

Of course the other problem is if you want to proceed with removing the internal wireless card you'll need to disassembly it to do this! I would give it a bit of time and somebody is sure to create the necessary device driver support for the Mac OS X to use the integrated ethernet card and also the wireless card - this has been seen on other netbook/laptop/desktop systems out there running as a Hacintosh.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!
