Voted hot, good price but I want a 6 cell version so I'll hold out a little longer. Tempting though!
banned#2
You can't get a 6 cell version of this model anyway.

It only comes with one type of battery. Lasts about 6 hours
#3
No you can get a longer life battery that lasts 8+ hours, it is a 6 cell one, if you wanted to buy one of those batteries yourself its £50 odd so still not worth while
banned#4
This is probably the smallest , thinnest 10.1" netbook at the moment
#6
strongly suggest waiting for the new pine trails to hit the market here. top end HP one in the US is currently similarly priced to this and blows it out the water performance wise.

1008HA Seashell battery is non removable. Apart from removing it by unscrewing the chassis, how would you intend to change it?
#8
hot for me
was waiting for this price
#9
Yep, the new chipsets are coming, this generation will be dumped soon.
Wait a while and get a far better machine with longer battery life.

Which HP model is that? I'll be looking at netbooks in the next few months so it'd be good to know what's coming up and what to expect.

i've been watching this thread:
http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1800549

i've got my eyes on the HP mini 210 but there are some Acer / ASUS deals in there too. all pine trails.
#14
Great price for a top netbook - heat and rep added! (and one ordered) :)
#15
Pine trails are already here - Argos have the MSI U130 which I've got which is based on the new Pine Trail N450 Atom processor. Price is £249 at Argos at the moment, though I only paid £229 for it in early Jan.

Can recommend it. I've got it running Windows 7 Home Premium and it copes really well with everything I've thrown at it so far.

This deal is still good IMO for the price. Quite tempted to get one for the kids to keep their mucky prints off the main laptop!
#16
wow really tempted by this deal, been waiting for a good deal on a netbook for a while and this seems perfect. I am worried though that people are saying wait, how long will these new netbooks take to hit the market, and how much better will they be, and at what price?

thanks
#17
I bought one a few weeks ago direct from Asus for the same price. I absolutely love it, it's so useful for my work and I take it almost everywhere. Good specs for the price, and looks to kill. For under £200 it's a steal!
#18
This was posted few weeks ago, and its worth reading the comments here.

It's really hard to updrage the RAM and to change the battery, but its a good netbook and asus are quite relaible.

really?

surely they can handle a youtube video? if not i will defiantly be waiting for better netbooks
#21
HOT, good net book... well better than the dell mini which is going for 184 refurbed, this is new and has a bluetooth too...
not sure if it's worth waiting for the pine trails though, they're gonna be pricey comparable to a standard laptop without the perf.
#22
btw has anyone used this website before, are they reliable? I have never heard of them before
#23
Of course i can handle YouTube and Facebook!!
I brought one of these from AsusDirect, and installed Windows 7 Pro, and it works flawlessly and will handle youtube and Facebook! it has Microsoft Office '07 on it, and handles that fine too!!

This is a top Notch netbook and well worth the £199! :)

It can handle most stuff easily without much trouble

I have a Asus 901 and recently got this Netbook from SimplyAsus for same price as this offer

the 1008HA has a slightly better processor then the 901 and a very good screen esp for video
and it nice and slim

if you want a good netbook and you don't want to mess around upgrading
this machine is a decent one
it not got an ssd but it does have a good sized hdd
#25
I've got a samsung n110 and it runs facebook and youtube perfectley..so i think someone is talking through his or her :whistling:

Utter rubbish, I've even got BBC iplayer running on my NC10 (same spec) with no problems! Reckon it's your internet connection, not the netbook!

The PCPro review (I've always found them to be very reliable and impartial) knocked this netbook for the non-removable battery and price, which was £320 at the time of the review. Obviously, the price isn't an issue, so, if you can live with the battery, this is a real bargain. Full review here:

If it breaks down do you contact the company selling or the maker ?

How long is the warranty ?

Thanks.

Contact asus if it breaks down after a month.

but what about iplayer HD to a TV?

don't expect it can do that?

does anybody know if the screen is mat or glossy? thanx

It doesn't have HDMI so thats a pointless question. My mum got a copaq mini for £179 recently, it plays stuff on you tube and iPlayer perfectly.

You're right. It can't do that. Likewise, it can't square a circle, turn the Ood into a race of beauty queens, derive Euclid's fifth postulate from the other four, make a cup of earl grey, or, disappointingly, revive a deceased Norwegian Blue regardless of how beautiful it's plumage.

Still, it's not all bad news. It can do a lot of things it is actually designed for, amongst them being the ability to play a video and, through the magic of the internet, allow users to while away the hours on social networking sites.

it's not cold but not hot for me either. 3 cells and 160GB - it's should be at this price. For £50 more I can get 6 cells - 250GB - Win 7 from 1005HA

you don't need HDMI to output iplayer HD to a TV. I do it now with an old laptop through the VGA out. My question was not meant to be derogetory about the machine. Just interested as if it could I would get one. Get back in your box the rest of you:p
#39
Voted hot from me thanks and ordered one today :-D

Used to have a Samsung NC10 & N510, recently sold them both and miss them so went for this due to the price, comments on here and it seems to fit the bill perfectly !

Even if it turns out to be naff I'll sell it on for more on a popular auction site
