This is a good deal but I think it can be bettered:

£199 at Currys/PCW and they'll give you £50 trade in on an old laptop.

Does anyone have this model and is it any good? e.g. is the screen good enough to browse for a couple of hours without killing your eyes?

Do you have a link to this deal? I can't find it on the Curry's website.
Many thanks.

I had a chuckle at this when saw it in store. The trade in needs to be a fully working minimum P4 if I recall, but they then go on to list, core 2 duo, i3, i5 and i7, because clearly people will be looking in their attics for their old Core i7 laptops to trade in for £50......

Edit: Hmmm, all the blogs/websites I've been on seem to suggest it's any laptop (1987 386?) but in store the sign I saw had a minimum spec stipulation.

good spec for the price, voted hot

I bought one of these for the same price about a year ago - it's been a good netbook, runs ubuntu very well.

Don't really use my netbook now I've got a smartphone but it was good for a while

Sometimes netbooks around with the Atom 450 processor around £200, would rather have one of those (better battery life)

has HDMI?

No HDMI

The one at Currys/PC World has N450 processor, but only 2 USB's, and a combined headphone/microphone socket. 160GB hard disc, 1GB RAM - still a good price for £199. Battery supposed to last up to 9 hours, 6 cell. Netbook comes in 4 colours.

Main incentive is the slim design.

Battery lasts approx 3 hrs 45 mins

Main disadvantages:

You have to explore its insides to upgrade the ram...

Battery is 3 cell and non replacable (I believe).

Still a hot deal though

I doubt it is non-replacable. (_;)

Further to my earlier comment, I have posted this as an alternative.

This only has 160GB hard disk and 2 USB's, but you can buy it instore, is N450, XP and 6 cell battery.

Looks v-good but needs hdmi and Nvidia ion.
#15
6 cell for the same price

Bit thicker but does have "Run Time (Up To): 11 hour(s)" which means 8-9 on a good day

Review states that it isn't. I think you can contact asus and get it replaced though.

The deal from NT14's post is better in my opinion due to the 6 cell battery. I get around 6 hours from the 6 cell battery with constant use. My view is the the main benefit of a netbook is portability so having to recharge it every few hours is a drawback. I have the 1001ha which is almost identical, Great build quality. NT14s deal comes with Windows XP which is a full version whereas Windows 7 is the limited starter edition. However, I've put Windows Ultimate on my Asus and it runs fine.

Maybe it's instore only? Noticed yesterday it's now also £70 against a laptop or desktop. And don't forget the £5 voucher via the Christmas catalogue.

I am rubbish when it comes to specs but I bought this Asus EEE and got it yesterday. So pleased with it and the quality of it is so much better than the netbooks we looked at in Currys/Comet
