This is more like it, price wise i mean, the new ones are getting too expensive and nearly missing the point
#2
I presume this is only good for basic use i.e. web browsing, and using word and excel etc..
Could this cope with watching films and listening to music as well?

I am just looking for something cheap to do a bit of web browsing and the odd bit off typing when not at home or saving turning on my desktop
#3
you can probably listen to music on this and watch films but its a bit limited by the 2gb hard drive
#4
It'll handle music and movies fine.
#5
I would rather spend an extra £80 to £90 and get the Advent 4211/MSI Wind.
#6
The main problem with this one is the lack of battery. Ye it will play films fine from an SD card and I have an 8gb SD card in my eeePC 701 (which is the same just with more battery life and more space) The 701 can be had for about £200 now and imo £20 is well worth the additional battery life and double the SSD (disk space)
#7
Intel Atom version coming out soon apparently. Perhaps best to wait for that?

Atom is quite a bit slower than these celerons, but you get greater battery life, depends which is more important.

701 on ebuyer
£192.53 delivered

# Battery: (4 Cells) 4400mAH
4 GB Solid State Drive

so extra 13.43 for 2gig more SSD and 4400 batter rather than 2800

maybe get this and a 10400mah battery (about £35?)
the 2GB space isn't a huge deal because you can use a huge SD card.
i've seen it recently for £10 less actually, can't remember where though

edit: here's the black for 175 delivered:
http://www.oyyy.co.uk/product.php?xProd=54009
but it says 256MB.. anyone sure the 2GB come with 512?

why get a bigger battery for £35 when you can have it for £13 (also where can you get this battery for £35)

The one you listed also has only 256 meg of ram and the one in the deal also doesn't have a webcam.

I would be extremly sceptical about the one you have posted as it lists a 4400 battery and a webcam but 256 meg of ram and 2 gb SSD. I do not believe this configuration was ever released.

yes exactly (the spec doesn't make sense. oyyy is a good company though give em a ring). the asus batteries are only 4400 or 5200 if you're lucky. both are too short imho. so i'd get whatever is cheaper and look on a certain famous auction site for those quad batteries (10400). they are real btw.

Have you tried one of these batteries? If so what kind of battery life did you get out of them and did you get any problems?
#14
Or you could get a New one off ebay that has been upgraded to 2GB of RAM has 4GB Flash, 4GB SDHC and the camera and bluetooth. Search a popular auction site for 110274595566 reveals such a one. If you run 2GB or RAM with XP you don't need a swap file either.

Loads of people bought these because they thought they needed them but then couldn't find a reason to keep using them. Great if you travel on the road but I don't see it as a laptop replacement.
#15
What the hell is wrong with you people?

I bought the 4GB at about £180-£190 about 4 months ago. This is NOT a hot deal! Plus you can get the Aspire one for £229, with 120GB hard drive and 9" screen & Atom processor.

I am after a laptop for my son, would this be ok for him?
#17
Jenny, these are good tough machines for kids, it depends what he wants to do though!

rash, post a better price for an eee right now please.
#18
It might be the cheapest price for this particular model but that doesn't make it a hot deal. It would be a hot deal if it dropped to around £120.00
#19
Anyone know if this has a built in Modem ?

Thanks

The Atom is a tad faster at some things and a tad slower at others. Overall, there is little in it.

Asus has stopped supplying the 4G with the 5200mAh battery since the LG fire in April. You get the 4400mAh whether you get the 2G, 4G Surf,4G with webcam or the 900.

Negative. There is space for a port, but it is covered up. The modem port disappeared on the 900. If you cannot get broadband, you are better off getting the Huawei 3G dongle and a cheapo contract. Support for this is built into the Xandros Linux supplied with all of Asus' (non-XP) netbooks.

i havent bought the battery upgrade yet but ive researched it and have it on reliable sources you get about 4-5 hours from the 10400 (i get around 1.5 hours on the stock battery!).

i am thinking of buying another 7" eee but want the price to be under £150 really..

I'm afraid that I have to disagree with you. Surely if somebody is after this particular model, because it meets their particular needs, then it is a Hot Deal if it is the cheapest price available.

We all want higher specifications for less money, and given time this is what happens for most technology. But for somebody who needs this particular specification, today, it is a Hot Deal.

And that's why I have voted it Hot.
#25
The Elonex One was supposed to retail at £99. It was barely worth getting even at that price. At the same price as the Asus? No chance and especially not in Barbara Cartland pink.

4GB for same price at ebuyer?

Simply cannot agree, if thats the case why don't we post all of the 3 thousand products that Asda
has cheaper than Tesco?

It is only a *hot deal* if it is really really cheap, which this I am afraid is not.

I paid a similar price for a 4GB version, for a little extra you can get the aspire one.

Right, my son wants a laptop, im getting him one for christmas, all he would do on it, is play games online, like mininclip ect, listen to music and go on msn. Can someone advise which one would be better for him.

Ideally one with a 9 inch screen, so he doesn't go blind. Don't get the HP 2133 - the resolution is way to high (i.e. text really small).

Go for Acer Aspire One - cheap and solid(ish) build.

Thanks for the recommendation Rash, rep added :) Now, where is the cheapest place to buy one?

Play.com gives quidco 4%, plus 5% from a varsity card - so Linux version with 120GB HD ~£210 (I'm going to buy it from them)

And for those of that bought this here is 4GB for £180!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done voting it hot............
