very low spec, chip is old, ram is only 500 but the hard drive is 2gig ssd!

It might be ok with Ubuntu but this will not amuse any kids who want to play a quick game while parents are not looking. Fine for email and checking occasional sites but this is an old spec/machine.

£79.99 will tempt some, especially as the next best price for a decent netbook will be over £130 at Argos Ebay (if they have any left)

With a light desktop environment (e.g. LXDE), this machine will fly. SDHC slot to expand storage quite easily. Seems to have a camera also. Steal at 79.99 methinks.

Besides netbooks dont really make good game machines...

Weren't the 2GB models clocked down to 800MHz? Ubuntu is interesting because these came with an Asus adapted version of Xandros back in the day.

Anyway, this was the forum that kicked off the whole netbook thang.

My dad has the Celeron 900MHz Xanadros Eee-PC (with 16gb SSD)

its pretty quick with Xanadros and XP, decent for surfing, email and its not bad with a HDD for watching a film on

lubuntu or Mint 10 LXDE could be well suited to this.

I am using an Eee-PC 900 which runs the LXDE Mint OS like a dream.
It boots in about 20 seconds.
I am impressed how everything just works, even my 3 3G broadband modem without any messing.
Have not tried lubuntu yet, but will give it a go at some point.
XP was very slow and ran out of space on the 4Gb SSD.

Thinking about it, I only have about 750Mb of 4Gb left, so not sure how far you would get with 2Gb.

Would have added heat, but its not actually £79.99 is it? Its £86.98. Still not a bad price, but title misleading.

I know it's old hat, but these are really good little units. I've got three of them - Ubuntu is a really nice system, although you do seem to have to keep it up to date (like Windows update) - but it is very easy to do.

The 900mhz celeron is actually faster than the first generation of Atom chips for a lot of things. Plus these are a fair bit smaller than the newer larger netbooks.

Those speakers really spoil the show, it's like a ratty little 7" face with huge ears. Rather watch my own backside.
