good price for size and spec, but putting a cam in defeats the whole point of it being a simple affordable laptop...

Yer a real laptop as in not really that portable 15" or bigger!
This is a netbook designed to be much more portable! 9" screen.
Ideal for on when traveling and just need to access your emails and browse HUKD on the go!

I really think that all the new 'netbooks' need to be £250 and under.

I think they need to be given away with breakfast cereals.

Really small HDD? Its solid state, what do you expect!

Sigh.

Sorry ASUS, you'll have to launch your next version with 320GB Solid Sate drives, A choice of OS's preinstalled, a 1920x1080 res screen and all the other gubbins for £200. And people will STILL moan.

I seriously doubt your mobile phone does more than this is capable of.

The PC World generation that say Laptop instead of Notebook and use their "laptop" at home while sitting in front of the TV will never understand it.
Those of us who want a truly portable solution will pay £300 for one.

I think the Play price is good and I see the same discussion about the spec every time an Eee deal gets posted. I've had the 701 since last November. It's been great. I use it more that my Toshiba Satellite Pro simply because it is so small, and size and weight are key here. These are the size of an A5 diary. They do email, web and even video playback fine. Personally I'd go for the Linux version, but if you want XP and you prioritize small size over performance you won't be disappointed with this. Note that Asus are doing a cheap battery upgrade too

You're a joke, and don't even deserve me wasting my time responding to that.

20GB is somewhat small for some people if you wanted to use an eee as your main computer - it's fine for a secondary machine or less demanding users though.

The screen seems fine for me - what do you find wrong with it?

So, is it the Acer Aspire or the Asus EEE????? Or do I hang on for the rest to release theirs??

The EEE 900 has been my PC for over 2 months now. I woudn't call it a toy as it does almost everything I need a computer to do.
Your mobile doesn't run Microsoft street, Google earth with GPS, Paintshop Pro, Gimp, Windows Media Player 11, Outlook Express, Firefox with addons, Bit Torrent, Remote Desktop etc..
My EEE 900 does
