Thx Fred.

Though I heard that the EEE PC 900 has a problem with batteries running down even when switched off. So best to go for the EEE PC 1000 for a few extra quids.

had heard they had batteries issues as well. I think this has also been sold for £199 recently though I can't quite remember where.

The battery issue seems to be about one half charge lost over the course of a week so it'll still be fine for some uses. If you are after good battery life then the 901 might be a better choice as it has twice as long a battery life and doesn't suffer from this issue. The 1000/1000H also has the same battery as the 901 (although it doesn't last quite as long) but as it's more expensive, heavier and larger and doesn't offer much more the 901 is the better deal unless you need the extra size or space.

few extra quids = £120. And it weighs nearly 50% more
Think Asus have lost the plot on this one as at around £350 it's into "traditional" laptop territory
And of course for £70 less than the 1000 you can buy the Advent from PC World / Currys / Dixons

You shouldn't be buying the 16GB 900 unless you want a lame duck.

12GB or 20GB only.

Why is that?

Asus removed the primary 4GB SSD and replaced it with the secondary 16GB SSD from the 20GB Linux 900 if that makes sense.

Basically the 16GB SSD is quite poor in comparison (slow to boot, install etc).
