I know there are many debates about the EEEs and also about the impending release of the 901. However, in the here and now, this is the best price on the 900.
Use code 'AW10' to take £10 off and code 'ASUS' for further £16.45 (5%) off, bringing it down to this price. Then £293.50 with 3% Quidco!
I know you sometimes can't stack codes with Dixons, but these 2 do work together.

The 901 will have a longer battery life, but the 900 is faster due to the design decisions in the Atom CPU.

There's a whole horde of these small systems coming along, so whilst I think this is a good deal, I personally would wait around to see how the market shakes down.

Im just waiting for the MSI Wind and Dell mini before I buy one now! When is the 901 out in UK?

Of course you can, I won't lose any sleep over it. :-D I posted it because it's 10% cheaper than anywhere else which in my mind made it a good deal worth posting. People can vote as they deem appropriate.

Yeah well I posted this lastnight and it reached -170 give or take before it was expired.

That's a bit sad really. In my mind, if something is posted cheaper (and in this case almost £40 cheaper after Quidco) than elsewhere then that makes it worth posting. Might help one person who is planning to buy it save a fair bit of money.

I have just found your post from yesterday. Why have all the details been removed?
banned#8
Because the punters determined that it was a carp deal even though I figured otherwise.

Tomorrow (today actually, 3rd June) is D Day for the 901, rumour is that the 70* and 900 will be reduced in price in anticipation.

No reason to pull the details. If people have a chip on their shoulder about certain products that's their problem. There will always be price cuts and better models coming out. But TODAY, this is a very good price. Posting it might stop someone going to Toys R Us and spending £330 tomorrow. That's good enough for me.

It is a good price but.... we'll see what tomorrow brings. I'll enjoy voting cold when / if the 901 gets posted at or above the 900 RRP should the lower models be reduced significantly in price.
#11
Hot - at the moment the 901 is NOT AVAILABLE. It might well be worth waiting but the 901 will certainly be more expensive. I wouldn't buy a 900 simply because they're supplying the UK with a ****** battery, but if you do want one, then it's a good deal.
#12
This is a hot deal as it is a good price on something most places are selling for full price (though i am also waiting for msi wind and dell's mini laptop). rep given
#13
Found the below article on yahoo. might be worth waiting even if you want a eee 900 pc as it looks like it is to be discounted anyway.

If you bought yourself an Eee PC 900 in the last two weeks, don't say I didn't warn you as news hits us today that prices are set to drop with the imminent arrival of the Eee PC 901.

Quite why Asus decided to release the two models within months of one another is a mystery, although come to think of it, it could be something to do with the herd of rival, high end versions on their way.
We've yet to hear how screwed you're going to feel if you were one of the unfortunate few and you're likely to find yourself caught between wanting to throttle people who buy the 900 for less and those with the extra cash to bag themselves the Atom-chip inspired 901 in a matter of days.

Just like the previous i've not voted either way, if you want a 900 this is a good price...

These Asus 900 actually based on intel celeron m and 4400mAh batteries. Hold out for the Asus 901 with Atom 1.60mhz cpu, 5800mAh batteries and WiMAX-enable. Or even wait and see the prices for MSI Wind, Dell and Sony version. Expect more price cut for Asus 700 and 900 soon.

MSI Wind starts at £329 at Expansys who are taking orders now.

Looks as though cheaper Linux versions only have 512MB RAM and no Bluetooth

Looks like the launch of the MSI wind is going to be as messed up as the launch of the EEE 900. Expansys have now increased the price to £350, and list it is being supplied with a 3 cell battery, not the 6 cell that reviewers are basing their 5 hour battery test results on.

Certainly wasn't recommending Expansys, for all the reasons you state, was just an example of somewhere that has started selling them

I noticed that there's another EEE model on the horizon, 1000..... so they've only just about launched the 901 yet they're already planning the next model.

Madness, why bother buying the 901.. it could just be another temporary solution like the 900 obviously is/was.
#22
And more choice here. A £199 Acer due later this month

Just be aware, yet again us English mugs are going to be stitched up with a 3 cell battery, whereas our chubby cross atlantic cousins are getting 6 :x

Any places expect Expansys offering pre-orders on MSI Wind?

Tempted to pre-order from Expansys but it seems they don't even have the final specification yet. Some confusion in their forums about pricing, battery, bluetooth. So might have to wait a few days :( Loving the black one!

Nothing yet...

And their price is a bit steep compared to US pricing of $499

Have we got any confirmed UK prices yet? Is anyone even offering pre-orders on either model?

I read that it's meant to be the same price as the 900 but you know what that means, have yet to factor in 1:1 USD:GBP conversion rate and rip off tax.

$499 for the Windows XP version and $399 for linux.

So im guessing we wil end up pay about £330 for XP and £300 Linux.. I guess its more waiting till I order a mini laptop! :x

Only UK prices I've seen so far are from Expansys

MSI Wind UK, 1.6GHz, 1GB, 80GB, XP Home, 1.3MP, Black Ultra-Mobile PCs › MSI Wind 19/07/08 £345.59

MSI Wind UK, 1.6GHz, 1GB, 80GB, Linux, 1.3MP, Black Ultra-Mobile PCs › MSI Wind 19/07/08 £317.94

MSI Wind UK, 1.6GHz, 1GB, 80GB, Linux, 1.3MP, White Ultra-Mobile PCs › MSI Wind 19/07/08 £317.94

MSI Wind UK, 1.6GHz, 1GB, 80GB, XP Home, 1.3MP, White Ultra-Mobile PCs › MSI Wind 19/07/08 £345.59

MSI Wind UK, 1.6GHz, 1GB, 80GB, Linux, 1.3MP, Pink Ultra-Mobile PCs › MSI Wind 19/07/08 £317.94

MSI Wind UK, 1.6GHz, 1GB, 80GB, XP Home, 1.3MP, Pink Ultra-Mobile PCs › MSI Wind On Request £345.59

Rip off prices if you ask me, when US retailers have them for $499, fat chance we get them for the correct exchange rate.

Loads more seem to be coming out of the woodwork so in two minds whether to buy one of these or wait. Batteries are limited and intel predict a shortage of Atom processors too so if I don't get one know there could be a bit of a wait. Decisions... Decisions :?

Oh these are released in the UK in just over 2 weeks!
Hopefully Play.com, Dixons and some other places put up pre-orders soon then!

The original post seemed to hint that the 901 will not be much cheaper than the 1000 but I don't know where they got that information from - could be rubbish.

If it's true though I'd jump on the Linux 1000 with 40GB SSD and larger screen.

Will be interesting to see what price cuts take effect shortly. I guess the 900 really has died a death.

Apologies to OP we've hijacked your thread.

maybe we can continue over there?

Freezing cold i'm afraid. I wouldn't go to £200 for this pile of crap.

Don't know why people are giving you a hard time. Yes, there will be something better along tomorrow but that's the story with every PC I've ever bought.

I wouldn't either, Although for them that would this is a good deal..!!!

I understand the concept of these supposedly cheap stripped down laptop's, These are supposed to fill a gap in the market but £300+ for a Laptop that is probably less powerful than an old Nokia 3310 is just a waste of money, Why not just buy a £300 basic Laptop which would run 10 million times as fast as these? Or get an iphone or N95 as they're smaller and probably offer even more than one of these. Ok these are more energy efficient and come in a nice small package but £300 what's the point. Sub £150 and max £200 for the best on the market would be reasonable and that would fill a gap.

You're missing the point. It's all about the portability with these machines. I have a fairly decent laptop and a decent desktop, but I still took the plunge on an eee pc. With a full keyboard, 3g dongle and office functionality, my journey into work has become much more productive. It;s small enough to fit into my bag and not even notice it's there. I can even plug a projector into it for presenting. My N95 is OK for very basic surfing when out and about, but it's not a particularly pleasant experience. I'm considering ebaying my regular laptop, as I now believe my desktop and eee pc as a companion are all that I need.

I do take your point though that they are losing focus with the eee. It's price/portability ratio is becoming unbalanced, and I certainly wouldn't pay any more than £300 for such a machine.

Good price for a great machine.
#37
£220 is the pricepoint for these machines now.
£300 gets you a full whack laptop these days.
Not payin it, simple as.
They're gonna try and fleece us, I can see it, the 701 did so well they smell a killing.
Not me sister.

look out for the acer Aspire One too, rumoured £199 w linux 8.9in screen and hdd option

The £200 Linux Acer is going to smash the Asus into oblivion. Its a no contest.

im selling my laptop to go down the ultraportable route....phones are too small....laptops too big....this is the new filofax....reminds me of a psion series 3a (sigh).....tbh not interested in the bigger screens in the 1000 etc as it will make it too big...whereas the 900/901s screen will be perfect for using to read ebooks on the toilet as well!
