One case of butter-fingers and it'll transform into an expensive paper weight.

the model with the keyboard is released Monday.
They first batch without the keyboard sold out in the first few days after release.
There are loads of video's on youtube, not seen a bad review yet.
I'm waiting for the 32gb 3G model.

Really? I ask as Asus have said to people who have purchased without the keyboard in the UK could pre-order for £50 (i think) but wouldnt see them till the end of May at the earliest?

Added some heat, cracking price - I paid £389.96 (overnight delivery charge from Ebuyer) on Wednesday but returning as the screen is faulty and wont stay on. Ordered a Xoom.

Save one laptops are saying "order now for delivery on 18th May" on the keyboard model.
They are also listing the keyboard only, but its very expensive, £99.98p
They are also the only place I've seen listing the 32gb model, but its without the keyboard, that's £429.99
#12
does this have 3g connection?

Just connect it to your mobile phone.

I'll be tethering mine to my phone, makes more sense than having another sim anyway.

Sadly I think this will be the price most retailers will try to fleece from users to start with.

It is putting me off ordering the 32gb model without a keyboard as that would take the price to well over £500 once you add £100 for the board.

Good deal. Had a play with one today in my local Currys. Great bit of kit and I'm not usually an Android fan
#19
Wow this looks amazing. Wonder what the battery life is like. Looks like on the You Tube vid that when it runs low you can plug it into the keyboard for more power.
This type of thing is going to make the Motorola Xoom fail miserably!
#20
This particular model does not come with the keyboard. The Eee Transformer with a keyboard. product code 717711 (subject to stock availability).

I've heard these are really good, don't drop it though:

zippo lighter is hotter than this, naturally!, I sometimes don't understand people on here, this is a good deal, i am buying one now!
#23
Great deal, IPS screen does it for me, although I wouldn't get too much use out of a tablet
#24
Had a shot of one at gadget show, was incredibly slow, he who must not be named is still the best tablet I have used it kills me to say :(

I have one, no slowness at all, very nippy, nice sharp screen, honeycomb isn't as overly complicated as some may think, for the price I'm happy, my only niggle at the moment, is problems with HD video playback (stutters), but it seems Android 3.1 may fix this. However, for the time been I might return it just for the sake of been able to until the issue is fixed.

Not a Apple fan by far but if I was shelling out this kind of money I would probably go for the ipad.
#27
Looking forward to playing with one of these but as an iPad owner, another tablet is going to have to be brilliant to even be comparable with the Apple device.

I haven't got one yet, but these do look brilliant. Not to start an apple vs the world debate, but some features which I think are better about the asus for those interested:

battery life - 9.5 hours on it's own (ipad has 10), but 16 hours with the keyboard
screen - ipad (9.7-inch backlit IPS LCD 1024 x 768) asus (10.1-inch IPS capacitive 1280 x 800)
camera - ipad (0.3mp front, "720 capable" rear) asus (1.3mp front, 5mp rear)
ports - HDMI 1.3a on the tablet, and 2x USB ports if you have the keyboard attached. also tablet has a micro SD port, and the keyboard has a card reader (MMC/SD/SDHC) which allows you to boost the storage yourself
keyboard - I like having a physical keyboard! (yes i know you can buy a seperate one for ipads)

also there are more free apps for android than for iphone - i don't know how this translates to tablet world, but it is pretty good for android devs to claim this.

Please don't get me wrong - I think the ipad is a great piece of hardware, I just think it could be improved very easily, and I wouldn't be suprised if the next ipad has a usb port and steve jobs claims it revolutionary and slaps an extra $50 on the price

It would be revolutionary if you didn't have to use $itunes.

If you could drag and drop, play any file format, use sd-cards, usb, bluetooth (properly) and hdmi etc.

The specs. look good on this Asus. Tempted but I think I'd need something smaller that I could put in my pocket.

Once I get one, what do I do with it? I already have a pc with a decent sized monitor.
I supposed I could use it on the toilet.

No point in buying a keyboard if these are all about touch screen.

The Gadget Show, while entertaining should be named the Apple Show, I have never seen so many Ipads and Iphones on Monday's show. They all had one.

Doesn't matter if they win or loose, they've still getting paid and prices constantly flash up so really it's just a giant advert. Try to make out they picked gadgets like the parties even though it's the producers.

They will be even cheaper soon as Samsung have invented a screen with touch built into it rather than a separate overlay.

I played with one in PC World.

Screen isn't coated quite as well as an iPad, so your fingers don't glide over the screen quite as easily as the iPad.

Web browser whilst much better than the stock Galaxy Tab web browser still isn't as fluid as rapid pinch/zoom and scrolling as original iPad. Noticeable lag for quick zoom in.

Honeycomb home screens judder slightly when swiped left right. Not very bad but still noticeable.

Much better than Advent Vega.
Not the iPad killer yet IMHO.

I'm not as impressed by Honeycomb as I thought I would be.

I like the look of this but I think I'm going to hold out for the Samsung Sliding PC 7, Heat added

Good point.

What's got me considering a tablet is this, I have a fairly powerful PC with large dual monitors and a beast of a graphics card, it's handy for the bit of gaming that I do (which isn't that often), handy for photo/video editing (more often done than gaming). It's quite noisy and it's not very electric bill friendly. It's also in the living room! This was my wife's idea, otherwise she'd not see much of me. :-) I 'mainly' use the PC for web browsing.

I have HTC Desire, great for mobile use, emails, friends updates and stuff but not something that I would want to spend a fair chunk of time using to browse the web on an evening.

I also have a very nice Compaq Mini 311 Netbook, HDMI, GPS, sim card slot for mobile internet etc etc but I hardly ever use it, I just can't be faffed with using a mouse, plugging it into the mains .... you get my drift?

An Eee Pad (or whatever tablet you're into) in my opinion is probably the ideal bit of kit for web browsing at home, light on power usage, very little unit noise (if any), easy to use around the house, just about the right size really.

[quote=Q-Tec]screen - ipad (9.7-inch backlit IPS LCD 1024 x 768) asus (10.1-inch IPS capacitive 1280 x 800)

iPad would win on screen size and aspect ratio then, better suited for portrait mode (wider in said mode).
#35
i like the look of this, but as others have stated, no keyboard puts me off, as 100 quid for the keyboard makes it less attractive with the price nearing more 500

This tablet runs upto 9/10 hours without the keyboard dock and you can exploit the battery life upto 16 hours once the keyboard dock is attached.

Ain't that the truth!

I stopped watching the TGS a long time ago as they're all Apple sycophants. I'm happy with my iPad but it has it's faults - that's something TGS would never admit to as the slavishly drool over anything that Jobs releases.
#38
Sorry to go off topic but agree with the comments re The Gadget Show. Did you see the one recently where Otis was trying to remain hidden from that police dog? While he was "hiding" from it a cameraman was filming him so surely the dog would have seen the cameraman anyway!

One good thing though is their competition prizes are amazing! Over the top though as surely one winner would not need several pc's, laptops and numerous tv's as well.
#39
Saw one in currys, maybe it wasnt setup properly, but it ran fairly sluggish. Disappointing given it's specs are much higher then the iPad.
