I'd agree for what is relatively little you can get a fair bit more performance - see the benchmarks I just posted.

True, but Asus don't seem to be continuing the upgrade program to Windows 7 and the standard support cycle for Vista ends in 2012.

Assuming you mean "how good" in terms of reliability - try googling "laptop reliability"; you'll come across the 2010 Squaretrade laptop reliability survey http://www.squaretrade.com/htm/pdf/SquareTrade_laptop_reliability_1109.pdf - unfortunately it's an American survey but does include the main international brands; it places Asus top for reliability with Toshiba close second.
