RRP, Cold.

Even if it were a good deal, I'd vote cold due to the pathetic anti-Apple comment.

I mean really. Get a life.

This is budget tablet and I don't think it will last long

Not sure I would call this a 'budget tablet', it is manufactured by ASUS - who have a much better reputation for quality than Foxconn.

The basic iPad costs Apple less than £100 to produce. Apple then slap on £300 profit and sell it to mugs with more money than sense.

The production cost of this tablet is probably not dissimilar, but Google have decided to treat its customers with a bit more respect and not screw every last penny out of them.

I've had an iPad 2 and a few android devices. No comparison you get what you pay for and Apple **** all over these devices. If I want flash I get my missus drunk and put some Shabba Ranks on :-)

The Nexus 7 is the best and smoothest tablet I've ever used and yes I've used an iPad on many occasions.

The Nexus 7 might be selling for a cheap price but remember it's being sold at cost price where as the iPad is sold at an estimated £200 profit per sale.

For me the Nexus 7 **** over the iPad in every way.

My comments are because the apple haters say how great things are, but I really can.t see many people 2 years down the line actively using and content with it. For a start it needs anti virus software

Not seen anything on that, I really want one for when the wife is on the iPad and for weekends away..
I.m on a purchase ban, and she.s not happy I said my workmate offered to take my picture being presented with one as a prize/ work gift

Just what is covered by the 2 year warranty? The specification mentions a manufacturer's 2 year warranty. The T&C only seem to mention a "Second year service guarantee for large domestic appliances".
#12
but you get a two year warranty on electronic goods in the European Union anyway

however, that said, in 20 months time if there's a problem JL will sort it out unquestioned whereas some other retailers won't be so helpful.

No you don't get a two year warranty in the EU. Try return your 2 year old iPad to Apple store and they'll laugh you out.

"Apple has adapted its warranty to cover 2 years, under pressure of the European Union and after European consumer organizations sued Apple. From the article: 'The warranty conditions have been changed and these changes can be found on the website of Apple. Products that are purchased on the website of the manufacturer or in stores are now under warranty for two years, as it is required by the EU warranty guidelines. However, the warranty for Apple products that have been purchased elsewhere will not change and they will only be given a limited one-year warranty.'"

Does production cost include r&d expenditure do you think apple would have lead this revolution if they sold at a just above cost level, read the press watch the launch video google is going for the mass market (budget) and they state Samsung galaxy and apple will get the high end customers

Just in case anyone is interested, I tracked the 2 year guarantee down here: http://www.johnlewis.com/Magazine/Feature.aspx?Id=95 .Not worth the extra dosh, IMHO.

"it's not an apple after all." Apple products are long lasting if you aren't an idiot.

People that buy Apple products ARE idiots. "Oh my goodness, a new iPad with a slightly better resolution display that is unnecessary. I MUST have it, ignore the fact that I have more money than brains".

A good deal for the warranty, but not cheap. Still though, thanks OP! Apple comment is necessary these days (read: Apple are patent trolls).
#25
If you have to buy a Nexus 7 before the manufacturing / design defects are sorted then John Lewis would be my preferred retailer.

I fear that there will be a large number of folk with screen lift/separation in the coming months who will be forced to deal with Asus direct because they went with less reputable retailers who will not sort faults that are cosmetic.

Hot for me. Despite being RRP.

Nope - you do get some extra functionality for the extra £200 in a new Ipad. Whether it is worth the extra £200 is debatable... but the Retina (bigger) display, larger battery, better cameras (inc rear camera) and aluminium case are worth something if you need them.

Hi, new user here :) got a sudden urge to invest in a tablet, but can't really make my mind up. The scorching deal for the PlayBook looks like my best option, but I've been really discouraged by the sheer contempt expressed towards the product. Being a BB owner and requiring a tablet for predominantly surfing the net and listening to music, is the PlayBook that bad an option compared to say the Nexus?
PS I don't want to be paying more than £200 :)

Add an "S" at the end or "the new" before it and watch it sell

Urgh no, when it comes to tablets if you are after a bigger screen and can afford the cost of an iPad, it is the better choice. It does not suffer from fragmentation like Android does, so you know every app is optimised for your tab, which cannot be said for android tabs.

Ultimately it does boil down to choice, especially when you want a smaller sized tab, however stupid comments calling Apple products rubbish or rubbishing Android are just plain ignorant.

The playbook is cheaper but it's limited to the blackberry OS, if you like that then its the better option as it will be cheaper, but if you want to try something like HD movies, games, books and free applications then Android is the better option, here the nexus would be better, but not at this price, they sell for £159.

the nexus is not the best tablet, but its the best budget tablet from a well known company,

Thanks! TBH it sounds quite reasonable doesn't it?
It's basically extending Asus's warranty by 1 year.

Sure it won't cover things like accidental drops ,but it will cover issues like screen lifting and light bleeding on the Nexus. Sounds convincing enough to me! Although I'm going with the Tesco Direct deal since I've got a fair share of vouchers lying around. :3

gets so boring these apple / droid debates

I use both and both are great for what I want, if people want to upgrade their iPads from 2 to 3 at a pretty steep cost it's surely their business, nobody else should get involved, bloody pathetic.

Facts don't lie though and the fact is that google's margin will be alot lower than apples, this underlines the fact how much IOS outsells rivals.

Loved the comment about google treating their customers with respect and not pricing their product too high, haha really!! they put this at the same price as iPad they'd surely have a higher margin but that's not really gonna help with zero sales.

LAPTAP

Love and peace to all platforms!!
