A 970 is certainly not future proof. It's performing worse in DX12 and Vulkan than in DX11.

Buy a 470 instead..

or Buy Nvidia1060 3Gb version and have no future-proof at all. i have found some under £200 delivered
If you intend to keep your existing 1080 monitor.. than this one is the best!
And me having 27' 1080 monitor is one of them.
With regards to DirectX :) for now (and as in previous years) its drivers and optimization in most scenarios. Civilization5 was made for DX11 although later introduced DX9. And this is only one example out of "n"

amd RX cards don't support openGL thou.

I had trouble with my 7950 from day one with noise and performance. I will never go amd again, this is a tempting price to get back with the green team. I don't plan on going 4k for a while as my 1080p monitor is only a couple of years old. Ironically, I got it to take advantage of the 7950. Haha, won't be that naive again.
