Good find

yup, this has been rated (tiny-bit) better than the 4770 right?

I was looking at still getting the 4770 though as it's only a bit more but uses GDDR5 RAM instead of GDDR3, and uses less power apparently. Can anyone confirm this?
#3
Yeah the 4770 is supposed to use a fair bit less power but offers similar performance. I doubt there is much between them, I'd just go for the one thats cheapest.

Though having said that isn't the 4850 supposed to only take up to room for 1 slot, whereas the 4770 takes up 2? I'm not 100% sure on this though if you're pushed for space it may be better to get the 4850. I suppose you've just got to compromise somewhere.
#4
Just to confirm for anyone interested. This version 4850 does take up 2 PCi slots as it now comes with an upgraded fan which they use on the 1 gig versions of the same card.

4850 takes up 2 slots btw...ordered hot!

its rumoured to be out in time for windows 7. Details here http://www.legitreviews.com/news/6388/
#12
what would you say this card could be compared with in nvidias range?
#13
what about the fan noise, is it really loud?
suspended#14
Looks like a decent cooler.

Equal to a 9800GT/GTX. Why not wait for the HD5800?
#15
Scan have a 1GB version with better cooling for another £7: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-Power-Color-HD-4850-PCI-E-20%28x16%29-1900MHz-GDDR3-GPU-625MHz-800-Cores-DL-DVI-I-HDMI-D-Sub

Also, the 4770 is slower than the 4850 by the way, and as they are very similarly priced the 4850 is the better bet purely for performance.
#16
Yep, the 5XXX series cards come along next month folks, expect a price drop on this range.

I am not so sure about it as ATI would rather get the entire range off the market than offer it at £30-40.If you do not believe me, check current prices of HD3850 512mb or 2900XT ...:)
The prices will go down but not that much. £70 for this level of gaming is a great value.Hot

is this better than a nvidia 8800gt?

I actually voted the deal hot, as it is a deal on a card now. But some folks are happy to wait, and I thought I'd back that up.

just installed the card. Fan is not that noisy great performance. The only downside is the stupid fan design which sticks out and takes up the space of the other PCI slot.

Thanks for the feedback.

The large fan design is what keeps it sufficiently cool

Unfortunately, there aren't any single-slot fan designs created for the 4850 series (& above) cards, as they generate a lot of heat.
