It comes with a good bundle of cables unlike some cards:

DVI/HDMI adapter
Crossfire bridge
etc

Good price for a great card but watch out for the fan on this one.

I've got it and it died a few months after use, replacing it was fairly easy though.

Hi there,
can anyone confirm if it is single slot or dual slot?

THanks
#7
It looks single slot but you won't be able to use the slot its next to as the fans too big.

So its dual slot then....?! lol

From a review on ebuyer:

oh and does it fit - approx the same size as my 7900, though you will loose the slot where the fan sticks out - nothing really sticks out the other way so you should be ok that way

So yeah dual slot :D
#10
Will it do 3-D as I have got some glasses from out of a SHREK DVD & would like to try them
#11
Had this card for 6 months - been brilliant - plays most games I throw at it at high res. HDMI out works great.

As others have stated - you wouldn't be able to fit a card in the slot next to it - If you did try - you'd only block the fan.

i was looking at this as a cheap upgrade as well.

would this be advisable over a 4770 though? I was considering this one last night, but toms hardware said the 4770 is better as this one has a noisey fan and the 4770 performs just as good with less power needed!

yeah this card comes in 3-D

you can hold it at all different angles and it will always be in 3D

and if you do it in front of a mirror you'll be able to see yourself looking cool in those Shrek glasses too

I would have got this to play 1080p mkv's but just read this on Ebuyers site......

This card suffers mass lagg during game play on silly games like day of defeat it hangs up in the game like a lagg spike and then carries on playing. Its a know problem and when you try to update drivers you will be lucky to get the right one. as there is only drivers available for the 800 series cards which doesnt work to well because its a 1024mb driver and not the 512mb driver you need causing games to take ages to run and also the CCC you get on the graphic card drivers runs very high CPU usage but your not gonna know this as your be in game ( try ctrl-alt-delete) hangs and hangs more. The cards good the support is rubbish i run 2 of these cards and there really good . and we have tried this in many other machines but this problem always shines through .. happy gaming guys and girls !!

I still voted hot though, I just need a card to play 1080p MKV's smoothly for similar money.

if you have a good enough processor you dont need a graphics card to run 1080p mkv's or bluray. i think the processor is the one that plays it for you but you can choose the graphics card if you want. if your processor can't run it you dont need a high end card like this to play them a cheaper card will probably do. somebody plz correct me if im wrong

ye i was looking at that for a dell studio i plan on buying xmas time. anybody know how they compare because if theyr similar i would pick the gts250 not to overload the quite small dell psu but if this 4850 is better id buy this. H+R btw

i've been looking into the 4770 as well - it basically has the same processing power (short of splitting hairs) as the 4850 but runs on lower power (important if you've got a low PSU), however has fewer deals currently due to low stock.

i've pretty much got my heart set on a 4770 but i'm waiting until there's better deals

4770 is better (40nm vs. 55nm for this) and is cheaper than overclockers on play.com and you get Quidco+Free delivery too

Done. Forgot about that :) Ta..

Animons Hi there,
can anyone confirm if it is single slot or dual slot?

Its definately dual slot due to that large third party cooler.

If you aren't too interested in heavy gaming a sub-£30 Radeon 4350 can handle 1080p mkv:thumbsup:

Well to be fair the 4850 is still a bit faster according to many sources (heres one) http://www.insidehw.com/Reviews/Graphics-cards/ATI-Radeon-HD-4770/Page-5.html. And at a cheaper price its a no brainer tbh. Especially if (like me) you already have one and want to go XF.

I've got this exact model from scan. It's a bargain, performs well but for a "green" card, the fan is fairly loud.

I've got a dual core (not core 2 duo) 3.2GHz, but even that isn't completely up to the job so I need something. I always thought if you had a graphics card it takes away the need for the cpu to get involved or have I missed something?

My system still has the card that came with it which is an Nvidia 7500LE 512mb.

Found the solution http://www.avforums.com/forums/computer-systems/526758-playback-1080p-ts-mkv-files.html I will have a play later.

Where is it not much more? I cannot find it for under £100.

That;s fine I guess.
Should be ok for my dell (e520).

I just don;t have the extra slot to allow for dual slot solutions. but if it's just sticking out rather than needing an actual slot available, I should be ok.

You have not read the specifications of the card correctly nor understood my question.I only have a wing mirror & the card is 9" wide!!!It would cover my glasses.
You obviously have little working knowledge of 3-D

Thanks for that but it all turns out it's down to codecs, don't need a card now. Don't do PC gaming, that's what 360's are for lol.

Got it all sorted, installed CoreAVC Professional and did some tweaking and walla, it's all good.
#34
the HD4850 is more powerful than the HD4770 - if you check out toms hardware recent graphics card run down the HD4850 is the card of choice over the HD4770. they used to recomend the Hd4770 as the hd4850 was more expensive but now that the price of the hd4850 has dropped to hd4770 levels its a no brainer to get the hd4850.

the HD4850 is more powerful than the HD4770

From what I remember it’s not a big difference though and the much lower power consumption and decent over-clocking make it a good card although the pricing kills it for now.
#36
I received one of these yesterday and it’s a power hog at idle.
My system with an E6300 2.8GHz over-clocked to 3.5GHz with a HD 4670 consumes almost less with the CPU loaded 100% than it does with the HD 4850 installed and the CPU idling!

HD 4670, CPU idle – 70W
HD 4670, CPU 100% - 113W
HD 4850, CPU idle – 111W
