Asus nt-n13u wireless n router with print server computers £21.75 @ eBay/cclcomputers
I've been looking for dd-wrt routers and this looks quite cheap. I'm not sure if it is the b1 or the lesser v1 but still cannot be all bad can it???
Please note: This is just a router, not a cable or adsl modem router.

Jump to unread Post a CommentPS. Will this work with my iPhone? Just asking because the current router I have is a Belkin N router and it wont work with my iPhone, but is fine with other N devices.
Routers happen to be one of the things with regards to computers that i'm not totally clued up about. Sorry about the questions!

if you are just connecting the one device (ps3, xbox or pc) and connect a cable from the router to powerline A and plug this into a mains power socket then in your room a cable from powerline B to your wired device.
With regards to your Iphone it may just be that you can change some settings on the router (instead of the WPS option to press a button and enter a pin set a passphrase)
I would do a search on belkins website for the manual to access your router but from experience belkins use a 192.168.2.1 address via a web browser.

A cable from the router in my room will then go to my other flatmates room so he can set up his own router in his room too, haha.
Basically, I want a good router that will handle all the trafic well. Some nice wee features on it would be a bonus. Had a look online at reviews for this router and they are not the best, but for this price you really can't complain :)
found it cheaper here, it looks like the same product. just remember if you use this router, your ISP may not offer you support as they prefer using their router. its cheaper than sky's netgear router that goes for £35. you could wrangle it for free if you are feeling up to it

Hmm if you get a decent wireless signal upstairs and all clients are wired I would suggest putting the router into client bridged mode, apart from a netgear wgps606 I have not managed this with any other router unless they have been flashed with dd wrt (openWRT and Tomato are also open source builds) unless the router has two wireless interfaces you can only use it one way i.e. for extending or for connecting to an existing network.
UPDATE: After just checking the router you can run upto three wireless interfaces from this router.
running a cable outside isnt a bad idea and would free up two mains sockets (even though some extension leads have been known to work with powerline adapators).

i'm not overley versed in this stuff but wouldnt switches/hubs do what you guys need? in our flat we have the router go in to homeplugs and then in the spare room theres a gigabit switch connecting my server, pc and and xbox and in our living room theres a normal switch that a homeplug feeds and then runs our tv, freeview box, xbox and blu ray player. everything seems to work on the network fine as long as the internet goes through one router. If the wifi is alright i'd think you guys would be alright just using switches as they are usually cheaper with more ports that can run faster

I do agree but steve might want to extend the wireless as well so an access point with the 4 ethernets adds slightly more, a switch would help reduce the complications though (no need to mess about disabling dhcp servers if they are on the same range)

fair enough, i used them because i wanted gigabit in the spare room and didn't understand configuring routers when i needed to do it, thought i read that you said the wifi works now with sky but i must have misread that, it's a pain you cant replace the sky router (well not within their T&C's anyway), if its the same as ours it's fairly useless, i barely get wifi sat in the same room.
I've been using the dir615 and found them to be great especially in wireless client bridge mode. Just liked these as they have usb and multiple wireless interfaces. Which Im not sure dir615 seems to have
