TN screen avoid

Pretty sure all G & GL models from ROG are IPS panels.
FX & ZX are TN panel

Nice review here and yes it should be an IPS panel. This is the best budget laptop I've seen on HUKD for a while. Shame it doesn't come with the 1050 Ti otherwise I'd be tempted...

Dont get me wrong but the link above for review on Gl553 model for US, not UK. There are differences in specs, check asus web site. Unless someone from UK can confirm that it comes IPS

ASUS official site shows display with "wide viewing-angle display" - Gonna assume it's not a TN Panel on this range
Hopefully someone has already got one of these who can confirm

I received my Asus FX553 few days ago and it had TN display. According asus uk web site it had the same display as GL553.

"15.6" (16:9) LED backlit FHD (1920x1080) 60Hz Anti-Glare Panel with 72% NTSC with 178˚ wide-viewing angle display"

Now I'm confused! Notebookcheck.net is definitely a European website. I think it's either based in Switzerland or Austria with a Brit editor. Usually they review stuff that's destined for the European market and everything is priced in Euros.

However I do acknowledge that the info on the ASUS UK site does suggest the screen is TN and not IPS.

In which case, what's the point in having three product designations (FX, VX & GL) if there's no differentiation????

Come on ASUS, you can do better than this...

dunno, id say that asus was saying they both had ips
looked at a few higher spec machines as well - none said they had ips
even ultrabooks like ux310ua etc

which actual panel was inside?

I haven't received any response from Asus. The difference between GL553 and FX553 is that GL is metal, and FX is plastic. GL has rgb backlit keyboard, FX has red backlit. Everything else is the same.
I will probably stick to MSI which has IPS display

thats the screen listed by notebookcheck on the FX502VM so maybe its believable thats the GL series is right as well?

I don't know mate. Honestly I dont want to buy and then return it again. According to asus web site they have the same screen. Unless someone who bought GL553 can confirm if this model comes with IPS display

Also some of reviews based on pre production examples, so production model might have completely different parts...

Dan, these two are different classes. MSI GE62 is way above, and of course better machine. MSI GE62 is competitor to Asus GL502. When it comes to Asus GL553 is low tier gaming laptop. I hope this helps

Yes, that's an IPS screen. I had a quick look on Notebookcheck.net and it's the same screen as used in a 2015 Alienware 15. The link is below but the salient details are that it has a Brightness of 294 and a Contrast of 952:1; both good numbers which are far better that the screen you get on the Inspirion 7000 (TN) and the Omen 15 (IPS). Looks like to got yourself a bargain!
