After putting up with a shoddy Virgin Super Hub 2 for a year
and researching best alternative router options this seems to be the answer. These are typically £105.00 cheapest elsewhere and the price has just dropped to £89.99 at Amazon so unless anyone can find a cheaper deal, then I'm in.

Where did you get 'Dark Knight' from?

... I've owned this router for a while and my wireless SSID is 'The Dark Knight'. Freaking me out a little here...

So does this work with Virgin? (Cable)
From the pictures on amazon, there is no connection for the cable, this means that still need the Virgin Super Hub to be connected (one extra connection)

Is there a really good Modem router like this one, but where is possible to connect the Virgin cable to it?

bargain! i got this just under £100 about 2 months ago. Im using it on my BT Fibre with the open reach VDSL and it works like a dream! amazing :)

Virgin doesnt allow other routers to be connected to their network so the answer is no.

Put your super hub into modem mode and then connect it to this router. It will work great!

P,s I have this setup

Can you do your own static ip address

Dns server etc via this route

I have this router and it's excellent out of the box. Not experimented with firmware yet though... Good spot OP!

I have this to replace the BT Homehub... never looked back since.!

Awesome router, I'm using with Virgin hub setup in modem mode. Its the best router I've ever owned, highly recommended.

AC66U for a similar price from an EU branch of Amazon.

Great router, however the later firmware does noticeably reduce the wireless range due to some legal thing over transmission power. I've stuck with an older version from Merlin.

Had this router for a while now. Have been very happy after lots of problem and poor wifi range with a BT HH5.

does anyone know how to put the useless talktalk super router into bridge mode?

This is a brilliant router, bought it for 95 ish, I'm on Virgin Media 152 MB down and on Wireless 5GHz I'm on 120 peak times and ~155 off peak compared to 50 at most before.

I had a question on the ask section about bt infinity option 2. Archer or the asus range!

Great time for a price drop?

Will this work with BT infinity option 2 straight out of a box or does it need some tweeks?
Will the BT vision box (I have bt tv box bundle) work with this router?

Replacing HH3

cheers

have mine for almost a year on sky fibre. Great machine.
#22
Had mine a year too. No problems what so ever, no need to reboot it every so often like the cheaper ones. In fact never had to reboot mine. Firmware always released too.

You don't need a static IP address as you get a dynamic DNS with the router that provides you with an URL to get to your router, for example yournamehere.asuscomm.com

Can't see any information on it but there's some screenshots looming the net suggesting there is that option in the settings.

A++ router, Relly good price.

Awesome router I've used it for the past 2 years (think I paid £180 Just realised mine is AC66U) & firmware gets or did get updated very regularly. Only used official FW heard there is a Merlin FW that is supposed to be quite good but never tried it.

Only single downside is that despite the claims it makes it's not a brilliant wireless signal through walls. It's not bad but I've had a lot older & a lot cheaper routers work better but obviously havnt been so feature rich.

*Edit*
Reading through the previous posts would it be worth me installing the Merlin FW these days?

Official FW is rock steady & all the security issues have been fixed up to date which is the main reason I didnt really bother with the custom FW.

I have mine connected to the Virgin Router and the Virgin Router changed to Modem only (Both Next to each other via tiny ethernet cable)
Awesome bit of kit
Mine seems to be better after the firmware upgrade unlike some others on here who notice a reduction

Had this router for about a year now, and is terrific. No rebooting, works with Virgin, and a good price.
#35
Interested in this but then I think a VDSL option would benefit.

Is there a similar deal to this but with VDSL built in?
#36
how do you connect this to bt infinity setup - i have a hub and modem to replace?

Virgin doesnt allow other routers to be connected to their network so the answer is no.

It does in modem mode!

I use this router with superhub in modem only mode. Works a treat!

Same here but this would simply replace the hub.

First review on amazon tells you how

I want the option to replace the modem too but this model won't
