Brilliant laptop, I got the same one when it was £350 at Carphone Warehouse last year (but with slower processor), and I would definitely recommend it. Heat added.

Great deal.

However my wife purchased a netbook from them as a gift for me, and when I opened it the power lead was missing.....because I didn't advise them within, I think 4 days (yes I did all the explaining)
they just didn't want to know...without a power lead it was pretty useless on the day.

In MY experience, great deal, but customer service...a big no no for ME

Integrated 3G module is great.
Asus quality should be top notch.
This doesn't have a Gigabit ethernet port even though the trusted reviews review says it does. Guess you can't really trust them whole heartedly :p

I assume this could easily handle high bitrate 1080p video.

For me the Argos Toshiba deal is better, especially with the £75 cashback
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/toshiba-c660-320gb-15-6-inch-i3-laptop-349-99-argos/910696

Not looked up the processor benchmarks, but the Tosh i3 should be quicker than this Asus.

Cool.

This apparently also comes with a 4 cell version; anyone know if this one is the 4 or 8 cell model?

Why would that lump even be compared to this small light ultra mobile laptop? You're missing the point here I think.

This is a thin, light, ultra low voltage laptop with an 8 hour battery life.

Of course the Toshiba will be quicker, but that's not really the point.

What kind of battery life are you getting out of this?]

Generally I'm looking about 7-8 hours these days, and I've had this for 9 months or so.
At this very moment it's saying: 4 hrs 47 mins, 66% remaining.
When outputting over HDMI it's quite a bit lower, more like 4-5.
Any other questions at all feel free to PM me =)

i know this makes it sound not so great but there might be a bit of movement n the battery when u put it in, i addedd sum tape to mine to bulk it out, it stopped this and made it feel a lot ore satisfying

i get about 8-9hrs out of mine with having the brightness on second lowest setting,

the keyboard is nice on this laptop as is the touchpad imo, but my webcam seems to be installed upside down which through searching on the net doesnt seem to be wholly uncommon for asus lol, manycam sorts that out though

the quality of audio from the speakers is better than some ive come across such as my dads vaio, and it looks nice

Mine is the 8-cell, and looking at the weight of the one Carphone Warehouse sold (1.7kg), and this one (1.75), I'd guess that this one is 8-cell too.

I can get 10 hours from lowest brightness setting, obviously just normal browsing.

It is a superb laptop. The girlfriend has the slightly lower spec celeron version. battery lasts 9 hours. power drain usually around 7-8000 mW browsing the web, and the battery has something like 82000mWh capacity.

It can play 1080p video no problem - just need to install Purecodec (a bunch of codecs and players which takes advantage of the hardware acceleration fully).

Screen is bright and clear, audio is pretty good. Keyboard is extremely good too. Aluminium lid gives it a high quality feel and good overall build quality.
It is virtually silent in operation - the fan rarely comes on.

Only small gripe is the trackpad - its ok, and has 2 finger scrolling - but its nowhere near as good as a synaptics trackpad IMO.

At this price its a steal

Alot conflicting info about the model number UL30A-QX328V on the web, some say 1.5Kg 6 hours etc, can anyone who brought from here confirm 8 cell batt?

CPU is a bit low end... but that's reflected in the price..

Is it easy to upgrade RAM on this laptop?
#29
does this have a backlite panel?

Can you use the 3G with any mobile operator or is it locked down?

Who exactly would it be locked down to...? :) No it won't be locked down ;)

Keyboard backlight? Probably (almost 100% certainly) not, at this price. You have to go to Macs or Sony Z series for that kind of feature from what I've seen (which is a mite limited, I admit)

Is it easy to upgrade RAM on this laptop?

I have an Asus Eee netbook and the RAM upgrade was a cinch. Judging by the look of the bottom of the unit (from the TR review video, link above) there are accessible screw-on panels where I'd wager that you can change RAM and HD.

I would also love to know what battery this is sporting (very odd that the site doesn't mention it, it's rather important!) but it does seem likely from the weight that it's going to be the 8 cell?
#32
Agreed about the battery. Deciding factor really for me. As some sites come with 4 cell and some with 8 cell on the same model number. I wouldn't wager on the weight

This comes with 3GB so it must have 2 RAM slots.
