Very similar to the UL30a from carphone but a bit heavier and larger due to the 14" size and DVD Writer. Still amazing battery life of up to 12hrs for a notebook that lasts all day without a powerpoint.

Video showing this running MW2, like the guy says its not a 'gaming laptop' as such but very portable and can produce satisfactory gaming performance for modern games.

I thought so, but the temp is struggling:-D, I guess most people don't value a 12hr battery and use their laptops plugged in all the time.

I would think 2 year warranty with Asus (the only time I have heard of it only being one year is the carphone UL30a)

How is this a netbook.

might as well be one, have you seen its speed?!
#8
I've run a two year old Asus U6 everyday of the week 17 hours a day and it's never let me down, really good brand so don't confuse them with Acer crap.

My god you are ignorant, this dual core CPU will trounce any netbook CPU. Haven't you learned that the Ghz rating isn't everything these days? I think we should have a muppet smiley on here just for you.

Is the optical drive built-in or seperate? If its built-in then I'm very tempted - I only want something to browse the net on really, but I do want to be able to watch videos smoothly and I like to play DVDs even if some people see it as old-fashioned now!

Looks good.

Not to sure about the poor build claim, asus are the most reliable.

Has anyone picked one of these up yet?

Torn between this and the UL30, as the optical drive, slightly bigger screen, and dedicated graphics on this seem to be well worth the £100 premium.

My UL80 arrived yesterday from PCWorld but it's silver rather than black as in the pictures posted on here.

Its not much bigger than the UL30 which I had a look at in CPW. I've not had chance to put the Nvidia card to use yet but it can play HD video very happily with the integrated graphics.

First impressions are that its MUCH faster than a netbook and while the build quality is OK there is some keyboard flex.

Looks a lot more expensive that £450 though.

Sorry, I've been away for the weekend so have not used it.

However, I like the screen, even though its glossy, very bright and crisp. Still think that it's very responsive. I have an old laptop running Vista that has a T4300 CPU and it feels much quicker than that so anyone still thinking that this is just a netbook with a big screen, think again.

Please write a review for this laptop ;) And what about that it has only celeron u2300 not dual core u7300?
