I have one arriving tomorrow morning so I'll be able to tell everyone the CPU.

Hurry up! The wait is killing me!

Arrived this morning. it's white in colour. Processor is Intel Pentium 2020M @ 2.40GHz so I don't know where Argos got the 1.60GHz from but they were wrong. It's a pretty good processor according to cpubenchmark with similar performance to a decent i3:

Good basic laptop for a bargain price.
CPU is a few years old now but still a good performer for basic tasks which I imagine most people do all the time.

No webcam! Hot for the price

It has a built in webcam and mic. No optical drive though.

I bought this for my daughter for uni last year (although it was bright pink). It's basic, but has proved reliable over the year and does everything she needs it to. Plays movies just great through hdmi. It does feel quite hollow, cheap and plasticky compared to something 50% more expensive, but I think it's well worth the money.

Does anyone know the actual processor spec of this? Argos's site is useless, and the model number is too generic to find anything solid....

It'll be a Pentium B960 or B970, that's usually what they've put in these.

Well.....I didn't like to speculate, But this website claims it's a i3 processor?

Wouldn't surprise me if Argos messed up the cpu speed tbh, their advertising is very poor

why has no one mentioned this is 'OK for basic browsing and word' yet ?
#21
Done some googling and can't find too much on this specific model as there seems too many variations, does anyone who's owned one know if you could upgrade ram to 8gb ? Would certainly help speed things up a bit

EDIT..

Got my own answer from Asus support site, seems maximum is 4gb

That's a bargain. I have an i3 version and it is one of the best laptops I have ever owned. Might buy another one!

Quidco 1.5%. So, can knock off £2.98

We bought my niece this same one from Argos for her 21st, almost two years ago. The keyboard was horrible and the whole thing was glitchy and slow, horrible laptop. Also, you can't just replace the keyboard on this type of laptop as you can on the older style, something to consider if you go through keyboards.

Good price, heat added.

As for CPU, I hate it when you have to guess what it could be. According to the Asus website there's the X401U which has AMD in it and the X401A which can have any of three Intel's in it :

Intel® Core™ i3 Processor
Intel® Celeron® Dual-Core Processor
Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core Processor

according to http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/X401A/specifications/

Since this Argos one clearly says "Intel Pentium Dual Core" then I think it's the last one on the list above, not the i3 or the Celeron (or even a Core/Core2 Duo) type.

There numuerous mobile versions of Pentium processors with either B* or T* model numbers.
If we're saying it's def 1.6GHz then it narrows it down to

Intel Pentium T2060 @ 1.60GHz

Have a look at http://www.cpubenchmark.net/laptop.html

ok, I'll be that guy that says it, any dual core system it good for basic pc tasks like web, email, docs, etc. but not for gaming, serious number crunching in complex spreadsheets, or any cpu intensive apps like CAD and video encoding. It will do the latter but it will be painfully slooooooow.

Hope this helps.

Isn't Intel Pentium T2060 @ 1.60GHz a single core processor? This states the laptop has a Dual core pentium

I don't think it is...

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Pentium+T2060+%40+1.60GHz&id=585

"No of cores: 2"

No it's dual core but it's way too old, they haven't made them for 4 or 5 years. It's also 32 bit so unlikely to be used in a laptop with 4GB ram.

If it is 1.6 and a Pentium it's a Pentium 997. But there's a good chance Argos got the spec wrong.

This link has the same laptop (same price too): http://www.techbargains.co.uk/news_displayItem.cfm/409197

States that it's Intel Pentium 2020M 2.4GHz Dual Core processor (http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Pentium+2020M+%40+2.40GHz) which is a much much better processor.

Yes it is. I'm just pointing out they're not comparable.
#37
It can't be a T2060, my 6 or 7 year old laptop has the T2050 (I did upgrade it to that from a Celeron) I am using it now to look for a new one.

I'm looking for something 4 times better.

Yeah, I can't tell you what it is, but I'm 100% certain it's not a T2060.

Agreed typing on this is horrible. My advice would be use an external mouse and lock the trackpad otherwise it will drive you mad!

Other than that, great bit of kit, very light, good chassis, performance is perfectly acceptable for most everyday tasks. Mine has an B830 cpu and it runs Ableton Live without issue.
